Is the PS2 DVD player progressive? Will there be an update to make it progressive?

On another note, how is the PS2 as a DVD player? I don't have a high-end player (Pioneer DV414) so would there be a drop in quality?

TIA!

It's not progressive and I don't think there is any way to make it progressive.

As far as quality goes most people seem to agree that it is not as good as the entry level stand alone players. Too me it actually looks just as good as my two year old entry level Sony player. The problem is that you have to buy a remote seperately as using the game pad is cumbersome to say the least. Also there is no way to check the running time, what chapter you are on as there is no LED/LCD display. I would not personally use it as my only or primary DVD player. Other then that it is OK.
