I just picked up a used DC and it came with the following games:

My question is this.... In your opinion, what are the top ten "must have" games for the dreamcast? I'll tally the consensus and go from there. Please hurry... from what I'm reading, I may be getting in on a "dead" system

honorable mentions--

-F355 Challenge : if you're in for, well, a Challenge and like realistic racing

-NBA2K1 : one of best bb games ever, although I don't think any bb game is that great

-Chu Chu Rocket : awesome and original multiplayer game, and online!

-Crazy Taxi : quite repetitive, but if you really dig the gameplay (which is quite fun and addictive), go for it

-MSR : somewhat flawed and to some the graphics didn't quite live up to the hype, but a really fun and interesting racing game

-MDK2 : very fun and atmospheric action/adventure game

-Dead or Alive 2 : I didn't really like it, but it's a very solid fighter that many people love

-Daytona USA 2001 : dont' even make me explain....it's Daytona!! (it's a racing game)

-Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram : a bit of a learning curve, but a very very good arcadey mech game

-Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future : Try b4 u buy. Many didn't like it, but it's a very nice adventure/"platformer" game if you're patient

-Sega Marine Fishing : I thought I hated fishing, but I tried this game and it's fun!

-Sega GT : a better than good, but in my opinion not great answer to Sony's Gran Turismo. Some people prefer it.

-Sega Rally 2 : not actually a "rally racing" game (real rally racers on on PC), but a very very fun arcade racer with a unique feel

-Worms Armageddon : like the original or never played it at all? Don't have a PC?(the pc version is better with online play) Get this game!!! It is a very fun and original turn-based strategy.

I'm not much on sports games... But I do like the action/strategy ones. Not really the build your own empire type of atrategy games but maybe action/adventure. Flight simms suck IMHO.. What's up with this "taxi" game?

One of the PC games that I really enjoyed was Thief 1&2 as well as Episode 1. How are the Jedi Power battles for DC?

If you liked the Theif games, I can't think of any current DC recommendations but there's this upcoming game called Picasso where you play a theif and go in art museums and steal famous paintings and so on. Looks like a cross between Theif and MGS. As for Jedi Power Battles......I would definately say skip it. Not much good game-wise has come out of the Star Wars license lately.

Just try here and look for games that look interesting with a good score.

Tony Hawk doesn't make the list, because the Playstation version has much better control. Shenmue doesn't make it because I found it to be quite an overrated game. Echo and Sonic Adventure were both good, but not good enough for my top ten. Sega Marine fishing may seem like a strange choice, but its a fun and addictive game. I really enjoyed it with the fishing controller. Phantasy Star Online didn't make it because I don't like online gaming. Its a great online game, however.

I disagree about THPS2. I never played the PSX version but I found the DC version's control to be superb. And the graphics are much better too. Regardless of what the PSX version is like, THPS2 is one of the best DC games out there.
Shenmue- some people love it, and there are some great things about it, but I too think it was overhyped
PSO- you not liking online gaming shouldn't affect an objective top-10 list. While I don't think it's one of the very best games on the system, it's a very good game if you're into that kind of RPG.

If you play the PSX version you will know what I am talking about. The control is much, much better. You can really tell the difference in the kind of tricks that can be pulled off on the PSX compared to the DC. That was the one thing that was screwed up in the DC port. Its still a great game, but the PSX version is the best.

There are other games out there that I've played, that are good, but these are the ones that stand out. Sonic 2, Crazy Taxi 2, and Shenmue Chapter 2, will be great!

I just hope for a Shining Force for Dreamcast before they stop making games!
