Thats funny, I don't think Sony can afford not to have Square behind them. Especially in Japan. FFX is going to be a big cash cow for Sony. How much they are losing on consoles only makes it more important for them to have huge software sales.
And in case your curious why square didn't make games for N64, well that's because Sony was paying them lots of money for those exclusive games. Something that Sony may not be able to afford losing 100 bucks per console.

That's only part of the reason. The main reason was that Nintendo choose to stick with cartridges instead of cd.

It's true that square used the FMV to its advantage on the PSX. And Often times people point this reason as why they defected, but ultimitly it was the money. Sure there may have been only 1 FF game on N64, but that's not the point.
FF was in development for N64, even when they knew it would be cartridge based. It wasn't until Sony chaulked up some heavy cash that Square Left. No doubt carts are less then Ideal for FMV, but that would not be reason enough to leave Nintendo outright with a prodct that had been in development for such a long time.

??? Thats funny because I don't remember saying that either. When Square originaly talked about the posibility of games for other consoles they made it clear that they would still make PS2 games. However, it looks like the PC and the Wonderswan are going to be the only other place to play Square titles for now.
