Thats funny, I don't think Sony can afford not to have Square behind them. Especially in Japan. FFX is going to be a big cash cow for Sony. How much they are losing on consoles only makes it more important for them to have huge software sales.
I never sid that Square was going to stop making games for Sony. I just said I think people will find that Square is not going to be JUST behind Sony...

That's only part of the reason. The main reason was that Nintendo choose to stick with cartridges instead of cd. Square wanted to do games like FFVII with prerendered backgrounds and loads of FMV. This was simply not feasible with the limited space provided by cartridges, so they defected to Playstation. IMO if Nintendo had made the N64 CD based, Square would have remained a Nintendo exclusive, and Nintendo would still be on top the video game world. They shot themselves in the foot with the outdated cartridge. Hopefully the Gamecube will return them to prominence. It's supposed to be very devoloper friendly, and uses 1.5 GB format based on DVD. It's more limited than a true dvd, but 1.5 GB is plenty of space. If developers are using more space than that then you're they're just wasting space with prerendered graphics and fmv. Plus if they want to do those things, they can just make mulit-disk games.

Josh surprisinly enough Square had been producing a FF game for the console well into the fact that the N64 (Ultra 64, Project reality) would be cartridge based. I used to have pictures of actual graphics clipped out. (Got them from some EGM back in 96 I believe)

It's true that square used the FMV to its advantage on the PSX. And Often times people point this reason as why they defected, but ultimitly it was the money. Sure there may have been only 1 FF game on N64, but that's not the point.

FF was in development for N64, even when they knew it would be cartridge based. It wasn't until Sony chaulked up some heavy cash that Square Left. No doubt carts are less then Ideal for FMV, but that would not be reason enough to leave Nintendo outright with a prodct that had been in development for such a long time.

??? Thats funny because I don't remember saying that either. When Square originaly talked about the posibility of games for other consoles they made it clear that they would still make PS2 games. However, it looks like the PC and the Wonderswan are going to be the only other place to play Square titles for now.

Sorry Darkside I thought you were saying that I was saying that Sony wouldn't have Square producing games for them. Which is not the case. Whew.
