Anybody else think this is the worst time to be a video game freak?

I love my video games as much as anybody, but I think it really sucks right now.
I love my Dreamcast, but it's dead. I will get a lot of enjoyment out of the upcoming games (Spiderman, Crazy Taxi 2) but investing any kind of money now seems pointless.
The PSX 2, well I have not played it so I will not pass judgement, but isn't the PS3 going to be released next year?
And the Gamecube and X-box dont arrive until the Fall

No it's a great time. Their are tons of great games on the DC, and several more coming out in the next year. The PS2 should pick up steam. The PS3 won't come out for around 5 years. The Gamecube and Gameboy advance both look to be awesome IMO, and the X-box has a lot of potential. I don't see anything bad here.

There is a news story on ZDNet today about the IBM acquisition of getting to do the PS3 chip. They talk about the fact that full production would not start until at least 2003 and creation of the chips starting in 2004, so it won't be next year, but who really knows? Here is the story:

Hardly. Luckily, I go back to the Atari 2600 days (my first system), so I've seen a lot of system launches in the past 20+ years to know that this seems to be the best time ever.
Dreamcast dead? That's funny, I still play the heck out of my Dreamcast. I'd probably go so far as to call it the most enjoyable system (for me, anyway) I've ever owned. In fact, it probably rejuvenated my interest in video games after the constant slew of substandard PSX crap nearly did me in. Dreamcast is only dead if you think it is.
I've held off on PS2. The games just aren't there for me. Oh, sure, SSX is fun (played it several times at the local Best Buy) but it's not a system-seller for me, and Madden (another game I've played a few times) doesn't compare to NFL 2K1 at all, again, IMO. So I'm waiting for a price drop there, combined with better games. Right now, I'm most excited about Gameboy Advance and Xbox.

I was browsing ZDNet's game portal, and found their ongoing "System Wars" articles really interesting, showing the upsides and downsides of all current and future consoles...
Interesting that even though it's a supposedly dead system, the Dreamcast still gets their #1 buy recommendation month after month...
