Gamecube to launch in September in US

from http://www.fgnonline.com:
Gamecube This September?
Gamecube: Nintendo of Japan's Executive VP Atsuo Asada has gone on record and stated that Gamecube will launch in the U.S. this September.
It was believed that the console was originally due for a North American release sometime in October.
Europe will have to wait until early 2002 for the launch of Gamecube.

If you go to http://www.dailyradar.com, the news was misinterpreted. It is still scheduled for an October release. This is just the first place I found the addendum.

Metroid is probably going to be a disapointment. How Nintendo can turn a classic franchise over to an American developer I will never understand. Still that is probably the only game that I am worried about. I am sure Nintendo will come through with plenty of great titles for this system. From themselves at least if no one else.

While I would prefer to see this done in house, I am just grateful we are going to get it. Besides, I wouldn't count retro out...

Plus the fact that the creator of Metroid (and the Game Boy and Virtual Boy) is dead as a doornail. Nintendo released the Virtual Boy because of the success of the Game Boy even though they knew it would go nowhere.
I don't like the idea of Metroid being an FPS, but we'll see how Retro does. And the prior poster is correct, Metroid has ALWAYS done horribly in Japan and it's saving grace is the US. I am guessing that Nintendo of Japan figured a 2nd party American developer could do something great for Metroid. We shall see.
I am also interested in launch titles and I think it would be dumb for Nintendo to wait until E3 (middle May) to announce this as it then gives them 5 months to promote it. The PS2 was at least hyped and we had an idea of what games were coming well before the system came out.

For Gamecube? it will NOT be over 199.99 that much is almost for certain. In fact, that's probally what it will be. It may be even lower to undershoot the PS2 if Sony decides to drop its price.
The thing about the gamecube is that its much easier to produce then PS2, so that means lower cost for consumers.
I remember a while ago rumors were flying of a 99 dollar price at launch to take the indstry by storm and regain the number one spot. It was spawen by a quote be Peter Main at E3 saying Nintendo wanted to launch the system lower then any prior system. Well, "wanting" and "doing" are two different things. But at least we know this was a goal for them, so we should see a more comsumer respectful price then what we have seen from Sony.

$149.99 has been bounced around a lot too. It will probably be $199.99 though. Either way I'm happy, $199.99 is the most I'll pay for a system, if it's more than that I'll wait for a price drop.

tanman,
Go to cube.ign.com, that is where I get most of my GameCube information (or lack thereof). Metroid being an FPS was announced at a lot of gaming sites. Retro Studios recently laid off people and shrunk their number of games in development to two: Metroid and an as yet unnamed RPG.
If the price is good and the launch games have Mario, Zelda or Metroid (even though I am not enthused about FPS) in them I will probably buy a GameCube...I doubt I will go X-Box though. Maybe I could sell my DC and games for the GC depending on what games Sega announces for the PS2.

BTW Metroid is going to be a First Person Adventure, not a First Person Shooter. Their not turning it into Quake or anything. It's supposedly going to have the same emphasis on exploration as the old Metroids, and no more emphasis on shooting stuff.
