Alpha Centauri (aka. Civ 2.5).

X-Com is a strategy game, right?

I have spent the majority of the past 5 years playing some version of HOMM.

I'm currently playing the Chronicles series.

Best real time strategy game? Starcraft. Though, you have to pay homage to the one that started it all: Dune.

Best turn based strategy game? Call me old school, but it's gotta be chess. I've read that any of the newer Chessmaster programs can beat 99% of all human players (myself included). That's pretty sad.

I couldn't have said it better.

These are the three games I play...consistently and only.

Exactly the same here...but I also love the 2 Myth games...with Myth 2:Soulblighter being my favorite of the two.

I'm a nitpicker, but the first RTS was Dune II (remade as Dune 2000).

Dune was just a side scroller from what I've heard.

Yeah, the RTS one was Dune II.

Incidentally, I found X-Com the other day and I've been playing it waaay too much lately. I think that it has to be the best strategy game ever made.
