The DC did not fail because Sega didn't release a Vectorman 3 or sequel to Golden Axe. It failed because of poor marketing, lack of RPGs, and Japanese gamers are extremely fickle and just had to hold off for the PS2.

Yeah actually the Japan thing is the big part. Japan is way more important then U.S. games. A prime example as to why this is true I really good release of a game here is like 200,000 copies sold the first week. A really good release there is 2,000,000 the first weekend. Gaming is like a religion there.

Adding to the japanese thing.... a LARGE part of why the PS2 succeeded in Japan was the ability to play DVDs. Software sales for a new machine launch in Japan are normally 2-1 or higher, but for the PS2 they were barely 1-1 (1 game sold for each console sold at launch). A DVD player AND game machine for cheaper then just a DVD player was a great deal.. It's really sad and frustrating the way this all worked out.
