Death Stranding 2: On the Beach -->6.26.25-->PS5

This is garnering some major great reviews. 90% on meta with 103 critics in....
Video Game Reviews, Articles, Trailers and more - Metacritic

Comes out in 2 days, with the digital edition pack- 2 days early access. Much more emphasis on killing this time and they say all the boringness from 1 is not evident any longer.

Re: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach -->6.26.25-->PS5

The title of this game reminded me of a book that we read in middle school in the 1980s by Nevil Shute titled "On the Beach."

I had a teacher that was into post-apocalyptical stuff and this book was right up his alley and he had us read it. It was an interesting book and one that has stuck with me since.

From Goodreads:

After a nuclear World War III has destroyed most of the globe, the few remaining survivors in southern Australia await the radioactive cloud that is heading their way and bringing certain death to everyone in its path. Among them is an American submarine captain struggling to resist the knowledge that his wife and children in the United States must be dead. Then a faint Morse code signal is picked up, transmitting from somewhere near Seattle, and Captain Towers must lead his submarine crew on a bleak tour of the ruined world in a desperate search for signs of life. On the Beach is a remarkably convincing portrait of how ordinary people might face the most unimaginable nightmare.
When referring to naval officers, the term "on the beach" refers to the idea of being retired from active service. With a mind like Kojima, he's probably read the book and has incorporated ideas or themes from the book into the game.

I didn't play the first one and I doubt I'll play this one either, I just found it a strange connection.

Those of you who do play, have fun.

You're probably on the money with that book. The first game was not my cup of tea, so I'll be skipping this one. That being said, I do hope those that play it have a great time.

Also, funny enough, I saw on YouTube that some folk were acting offended over the fact that Gamespot gave this sequel a 7/10. That seems like a respectable score for a rather niche game, so I fail to see why the offense.

Here's a link to the review.

The Good

  • Revisiting the world of Death Stranding is exciting
  • Photorealistic visuals are stunning even on a base PS5 model
  • Core gameplay is still unique

The Bad

  • Repetitive story beats that are too close to the first game
  • Focus on weapons and spectacle detracts from uniqueness
  • Friction is lost, rendering some challenges superficial
  • Questionable tropes around women
  • Boss fights are unimaginative

I preordered it but won’t be able to play until I’m back from Australia on the 4th.

Interesting… I didn’t know it was built on the same engine as the Horizon games.

Yeah, Kojima switched to Decima for Death Stranding after his split from Konami. I dunno for sure, but I suspect Konami owns the Fox Engine, hence the change.

I just started playing this and cant get enough. I think its better than the original in just about every way. I just wish the monorail was a little quicker.
