Well then you've played, what, 30 hours of a turn-based RPG.

Because of all this press I reupped Gamepass and I'm 15 minutes in and enjoying the heck out of it, this is going to be my current story game.

Assuming all the nonsense is over (can we delete all those posts?)....back to the game!

Still amazing at around 25 hours. Soundtrack should win awards. So should the writing and acting. Can't recommend this game enough. Everyone should play it.

And in the new era of $80 games, it's $49.99. No idea why, but kudos to them for the pricing as well!

To be fair, it's not as long or big as other modern RPGs. But it doesn't take away from the quality of everything they put in. I'd be just as happy if I paid 69.99.

I played through the intro and this is going to be my next game. As soon as I finish the current Disney Dreamlight Valley starpath which is time limited and get through a new season of Disney Speedstorm which starts next Thursday, I'll fire up one of my three month cards.

To be fair a lot of modern RPGs are long for the sake of being long and it's a deterrent in a lot of the titles. IMO of course.

I’m about two hours in. I’m really not a fan of turn based combat… so I love that real time dodging at parrying at least makes it more tolerable.
I’m digging the game in general. Playing on the easiest setting for now.

I'm thinking about going down to easy. Not the greatest at parrying.

I found the "roulette picto"

Makes the game way easier

They’ve sold 2 million copies so far.

I’ve put another couple hours into it. Still playing on easy. I’m bad at stacking my skills/attributes for maximum damage, but I’m doing alright. Got my fourth party member and progressing through the story. I don’t know that I love the game, but I do like it a lot.

Apparently they are working on a vinyl release of the soundtrack album. Given I am no fan of vinyl, I hope they also release the entire album on CD. Either way, it'll be a lot of discs, given how big the full album is.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Sandfall Interactive, April 24, PC, Xbox, PS5)

^ I’ve added the digital version to my Bandcamp wishlist so I can pick it up the next time there’s a Bandcamp Friday sale (in which they don’t take their usual cut). I’m fine with FLAC downloads since they’re equal to CD and I can add it to my PlexAmp library.

edit: looks like Bandcamp Friday was on May 2nd, so I’ll have to wait until August 1st for the next one.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Sandfall Interactive, April 24, PC, Xbox, PS5)

I finished this up today. I don't usually like turn-based games but this was mostly enjoyable, at least for the first two acts.

I will say that the game play fell off completely after act two for me though. The balance in the first two acts was good, but the balance after act two was awful. You can choose to either one-shot almost everything or have very long battles that have you needing to regularly parry five to seven hit combos with awkward timing. Neither option is great. I didn't bother doing a lot of optional boss battles because what is the point when those are the two options.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Sandfall Interactive, April 24, PC, Xbox, PS5)

I just got to Act 2 and man, that Act I finale sure is something!!

Regarding your comment above, I have to say that concerns me. While I feel like one of my party members is decently powerful, the others are still pretty weak. So I see myself in the camp of long obnoxious fights, even on easy. I need to change things up a bit, and leveling up my weapons has been kind of difficult given that I don’t have a lot of the necessary items.

Overall, though, I’m enjoying it a lot!

Finished. Lovely game and perfect implementation of turn-based combat for me. I’ll be buying the score on Bandcamp on the next Bandcamp Friday.
Tempted to get into the NG+, but I’ll hold off as I have Doom to play along with diving back into Indiana Jones.

I'm waiting for a new round of discs to show up. I refuse to play scalper prices, but I want it on disc.

So I've played through the intro three times now because it's so hauntingly beautiful, haven't gotten farther. It struck me the third time that when he's

This game is so haunting.

I thought this game started slow but it really picked up. The characters have such personality, and the music is the best I've heard since FF16.

My son treated himself to this game for his 27th birthday and played through it in a week. Said it was a wonderful experience that ever gamer should have.

I had never heard of it.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Sandfall Interactive, April 24, PC, Xbox, PS5)

My copy arrived today and I've been playing a bit of it. It's lovely, but also undeniably a AA game. But this would have been seen as AAA a generation or two ago. And you can't deny the love that clearly went into making it.

Thus far my only nitpicks are the traversal mechanics feel a tad outdated, the canned animations for the non-mocapped dialogue exchanges, the default sound leveling has a habit of drowning out some of the dialogue, and the game could use a 4K video update for the cinematics (similar to what NetherRealm did for Mortal Kombat 1) given how compressed and fuzzy they are (way more than I expected.

Okay, I am having really nasty audio sync issues during the cutscene when he Expedition first makes landfall. I already installed the patch before playing the game, which I have read should have resolved that issue.
