How old will you be when you give up gaming?
 

I mean I’m getting on in years. Yet, I still love playing video games. I mean 40 is no spring chicken. And, I know my backlog would keep me gaming till my seventies, but will I really be remotely interested by then.

Hell, not to sound bleak, but maybe I won’t even make it to 70. But, I was really wondering how much longer can I really be interested in gaming?

And, we all seem to be on the mature side of gaming on this forum which is why so curious.

Have you ever pondered that yourself?

Also 40, my interest in them waxes and wanes but why would I ever give them up outright? It seems like the perfect retirement hobby.

Are we talking about games which rely on reflexes and hand-eye coordination? There's a point coming soon where I won't be competitive with good human players, so interest in stuff like Super Smash Bros will likely dwindle.

Puzzle games would be a different kettle of fish for me.

I'm 40 and have no plans to stop. My Mom is 67 and she still plays Dr. Mario on my old Game Boy Advance. I don't think I'll be playing anything competitive after 60 since I just won't have the reflexes, but turn based RPGs and farming crafting games you can play for forever.

Oh, yeah, my mom is in her mid 70s and still plays Mahjong and Candy Crush everyday.

I'm 56 and I will continue to play video games until I pass away. (Hopefully no time soon)

I think that’s a little different though. Those are phone games. Even my mom plays Words with Friends and Wordle.

My father in law is in his late 60’s and still plays PS5.

I'm almost 50 and I'll still fire up my Switch and PS5. Like other's I have a back log of games to keep me busy for the next decade.

And I will be that grandpa that plays video games with my grandkids like I played with my kids.

When I am no longer able to hold a controller, I will gladly watch my grandkids play Spider-Man 10 on the PS8. ;)

43 here as well. As long as my hands and mind continue to work, I will continue to play games.

I think my eyesight will go before my hands or mind but yeah once those go I'm out (unless technology progresses to where I don't need my hands or eyes, then when my mind goes).

I mean I'm not going to be doing online FPS or Battletoads or anything but rpgs/turn based games/puzzlers/etc? Sure.

I'll probably be 90 years old and get run over by a hovercar playing PokemonGo when I die, so, whatever option that is.

I gave up video games several years ago and I'm 42 now. When my Playstation 3 broke that was the end for me. The only gaming I can claim to do now is Candy Crush Saga and a few puzzle games on my phone.

I'm not a gamer, but I don't think I could predict when I would give up something I enjoy. Not sure why I'd want to.

I tend to do things that I enjoy when I want to and don't overthink it. If I eventually stop enjoying them, I stop doing them.

I don't worry about stuff like this. If I want to game, I game, if I don't, I don't.

I'm 50 and while I find my interest waning from time to time, I love great adventure games and I've been playing Rainbow 6: Siege for almost 9 years now. I'm still competitive enough that I've been called every name in the book by young kids --- especially "old man" lol. I just remind them that this "old man" whooped your ass ;)

I'm 40 with three young(er) kids, 10, 7, and 1. While I can't play long story based game anymore due to time, I still enjoy playing multiplayer games that you can pick up and put down within 30 minutes. My two older have a Switch each and probably 40 games. I try to find games we can play together which is fun. I don't see myself ever quitting, in fact I probably see me getting more into it as I get older.

I am 61 now, no plans to give it up. Sometimes I play a lot, sometimes less, but never quit.

I don’t game a ton (averaged out probably an hour a week) but I feel like I’ll always play at least that much. Probably much more as I get older and have less family and work obligations.

My Mom made it to 91 before she had to give up gaming because arthritis
in both her arms/hands made it impractical for her to continuously use her tablet...

I'll be 69 in August, I still play my RPGs, right now I'm playing FFXII and enjoying the hell out of it. I don't anticipate NOT playing video games anytime soon.

My wife and I are both 49 and we are already having to ease up on gaming due to arthritis and carpal tunnel and such. I can still play PoGo, but console games and such are harder and harder to do for long periods.
