Starting a thread devoted to headsets. I have a Razer Kraken headset and the ear pads were peeling on them. Decker recommended replacing the ear pads and I didn't even know you could do that.

Please post all headset related questions and comments in this thread.

For the record, I ended up getting replacement ear pads and a new headset. I'll use my old headset for my PC and my new one for my PS5. Good thread :)

are most of y’all using wired headsets? Seems like wireless can be a bit tricky if switching between consoles. I’m thinking wired is easier to deal with.

Also, how are they for sound quality?

what about headsets that offer faux surround/Atmos? not worth it?

I just use a wired headset. Mine is pretty basic and the sound quality is decent.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Sony's Pulse 3D headset. It works great and is a very good deal at $99, less during Sony promos.

There are some pricier newer models coming out this year. I might splurge for the earbuds...

How long does the battery usually last? I still used wired headphones and headsets, because I hate having more things to charge.

Apparently 12-13 hours. Long enough that it's never been an issue for me. If I notice it's at one bar when I'm done playing, I plug it in overnight.

I love my Pulse 3D headset and that’s the same battery life I get with it.

I also have a LucidSound LS35X Wireless Headset that I bought at PAXSouth five years ago that work great with my PS4 and Xbox One X (and my Mac). Very comfortable and really good sound and mic.

My first real set for PS4 was Skullcandy Plyr 1.....I saw the reviews which were really good and got these as a "2nd" off Amazon for I think around $75...lite, fit ear perfectly, a sort of velvet feel padding that was really comfortable....sadly the banding broke near one ear and had to use duct tape and glue...so for now it's with PC and does the job still... My Second Real Good Set...I sort of stepped out of the norm at the time which was get a well known brand or the brands everyone was getting...and went with Lucidsound LS41....more toward PC but at the time it stated will work with Playstation and XB....since then however you don't see references to Playstation. It loss a good surround function with PS5 since it decided not to have a Optical Port. These cans are heavy compared to a lot of other but construction with actual metal where the ear cans are and pivot. Really detailed stiching on headband and awesome drivers....sound wise, these really sound great. I ould like to connect to a good PC to hear what it really can do....Ear Pad material has slowly came apart but did find Ear pad Replacements on Amazon...close to $30...so I opted for another set.... My current set is the Steelseries Artis 7P.....I did a lot of research and looked at several "Top 10 Headsets for Gaming"...and about every one of these articles had the Steelseries Artis Nova 7's in the Top 3...these are not the 7+ newer model but last year. I got them as a "2nd" on Amazon saving about $70 and frankly didn't find a single thing wrong with everything in the box brand new in original packing....These are really lite to wear. It has a elastic support band that I wasn't sure of but I can't really feel it. Ear Can are really comfortable with a velvet like material. Overall wearing them is great with no fatigue at all. Controls are good and basic and the microphone pulls in and out on the left side which is a neat feature incase you want to not talk and worry about rotating and moving a microphone out of the way just playing alone. Sound wise really good and detailed though I haven't gone into the Steelseries Software yet. With the new Playstation Sound Upgrade it's darn good out of the box. .. I use a Steel Series Nova Pro. The included controller has two direct inputs I use for my home and work PCs. It also can connect to other devices as a standard Bluetooth headset, which I use for Switch. Includes two batteries which are hot swappable. The spare stays in the controller so it's always charged. Active noise cancelling as well.

I’d like a wireless set for both Xbox and PS so I’ve looked at Steel Series and Turtle Beach. Both a little spendy considering I’m not sure how often I’d use it.

I hear this sentiment a lot and I have to ask : Why go that route when you can get a dedicated headset for BOTH consoles, well made and perfectly compatible for each system, for less money? Is it a space/clutter concern?

I think I worded my question poorly. I meant : Why seek out an expensive wireless headset solution compatible with both PS5 and Xbox when for less money you could buy both a Sony 3D Pulse and an Xbox Wireless Headset for $200 total (or considerably less if you wait for a sale)?

Yeh, it’s pretty much a clutter issue. Why have two devices that do pretty much the same thing? Of course that’s how controllers work, but anyway…

I hadn’t priced the console-specific headsets so that’s an interesting angle. I would be willing to pay more for a single set as long as it worked with both consoles seamlessly without set-up shenanigans. My limited research so far hadn’t come to a conclusion either way.

I was able to get my new ear pads installed on my old gaming headset. It took me a minute to figure out how to put them on, but I was finally able to. Thanks again Decker for the heads up about the ear pad replacements.
