What Are You Playing? (July 2023)
Haven't played anything in about 3 weeks, ever since finishing 007 James Bond series. Recently bought a PS2 fat version. Since my PS2 slim doesn't read like 75% of games I have. So I'll be starting soon I hope, playing games on PS2 that were part of series playthrough that I wasn't able to play.

I'm in the home stretch on Tears of the Kingdom and will hopefully have that crossed off my list in the next few days.

I'm averaging an hour a day on Disney Speedstorm and find that's about my daily gaming limit life wise. So I'll just stick with that one game for the time being. It's going f2p in 2 months, can't wait to see all the events that pop up.136 hours so far since 4/18.

Dragon's Dogma was only $4 on the Switch, so I'm trying that out now.

Re: What Are You Playing? (July 2023)
Just finished The Last of Us, Part 1. I was not really familiar with the games but when I read about the then-upcoming HBO series, it sounded like something I'd like. But then I heard there was going to be a PC version of the first game released in the spring, about the same time the show was airing. I decided to play the game first and then watch the show later. But late spring is when I'm ultra busy with work (high school teacher) so I put off playing until school was out, and finally got around to starting it ~10 days ago. I'd heard the game was buggy and/or had graphics problems when first released for PC, but I think they've patched most of that up and it worked well for me and looks great. I'm not a big gamer, so I've really only been playing Skyrim lately. It was nice to play through a linear game like this for a change. I'm sure I'll play it again some time, maybe on a higher difficulty level. Looking forward to watching the show in the meantime. And hoping they release a PC version of Part 2...

Just got here today! I’m also on a second playthrough of The Quarry since my wife and I accidentally killed nearly everyone. |

Re: What Are You Playing? (July 2023)
I finished the main story in Tchia last night, and I loved it. Admittedly, the first half is stronger than the back half, which obnoxiously dumps a truckload of enemies in a game that doesn't really demand combat, and the very final stretch enforces some restrictions and fiddly/frustrating gameplay out of step with everything else in the game up to that point. But it's hard not to be charmed by the gorgeous visuals, wonderful music, and just how much of a celebration of a land and culture Tchia is.
The soul jump mechanic is really neat, even if you'll probably mostly use it to hop into a bird and fly around. Wouldn't have minded more fast travel options, but some restrictions (relying on a compass for navigation rather than floating colored lines; controlling speed and direction requiring going to different places on your boat) wind up feeling like a strength. Tchia doesn't overstay its welcome either, as you could probably guess by me starting a game on Tuesday and finishing it on Thursday. :p It's definitely a collect-a-thon, but nearly all of that is optional. I'm thinking about going for the platinum at this point, where pretty much all of the trophies are just collecting stuff. |
Re: What Are You Playing? (July 2023)
Man I felt completely the opposite about Tchia. Probably my least favorite game I've played this year. It seemed right up my alley and I love a good collect a thon but the game was a real slog to play. The story and world were what kept me playing as long as I did but eventually that wasn't enough and I dropped it.

Final Fantasy 16
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (Series X) The Hunter: Call Of The Wild (Series X) I was really surprised at the file size for Hunter. It's almost 100 GB's! |
