I just ordered this from my Sony Visa rewards and it actually shipped! (I had another game that got canceled previously) Had plenty of points. Coming Friday. I just ordered the regular edition. I'll pick up DLC characters like Homelander and Van Damme later on if they do become available for sale.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 - PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Sept. 19

My copy just arrived a few days ago

I installed it and played a little. There was an insert to install Shang Tsung. However, I noticed the extra characters like Homelander, Onmi-Man, and Peacemaker are on a special add-on for $39.99. I looked at the list and it didn't show Jean-Claude Van Damme. Is he part of that? I did see Johnny Cage is in it.

Anyway, I'm not quite ready to splurge on that just yet.

JVC is a skin for Johnny Cage, not a new character.
It's with the Premium Edition, but not in the Kombat Pack. Not sure if it will be available later separately but might be.

Doesn't he also get unique dialogue (not just the same lines voiced by JCVD)? You could technically view him as a different character.

Got this yesterday and played through campaign today. Enjoyed the hell out of it. The story was great.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 - PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Sept. 19

Got this for 40 bucks thanks to the poster who made the holiday deals thread. I played a decent amount of it (mainly learning how to fight) it plays just like MK11 did but MUCH improved. Sub-Zero is probably my favorite character to use in this one (He was kind of shit in MK11). They really pulled back on Scorpion, he was very overpowered in the previous titles and to an extent, he still is here but it feels like they restricted him a bit more.

The story is your typical cringe nonsense, but hey, it's Mortal Kombat so it's good for what it is. I really wish this series was more "mysterious" instead of just so out there and outlandish. They really need to ground it A LOT more.

The Graphics are outstanding.

The Bad: Microtransactions, microtransactions, microtransactions - they are going to kill this game and people are REALLY complaining about it.

I'm so glad they got rid of the Krypt as well - it was tedious and boring. They replaced it with the shrine which is just a slot machine that you take your chances on for cool stuff.

I'm glad I bought it as I didn't want to wait for the super-duper fantastic edition to come out - also, something tells me the days of those versions that come out with all DLC included at a huge, discounted price are over. I could be wrong on that but we'll see.

Don't mean to get on a sidetrack here...but in PS Store they have....MKX....normally like $50 on sale for around $7. If someone who just wants to...try it out, beat up a few, casually play here and there....is MKX just a decent fun time?

I feel like any of them would be at that good of a price.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 - PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Sept. 19

I take back what I said about the story - it's actually really good.

As others have mentioned, I was reluctant to drop the additional 40 bucks for all the character DLC but I did last night. I'm pissed though as I thought by doing so would unlock all the remaining Kameo characters but it doesn't - you have to pay an additional 20 bucks for that. That is completely unacceptable and bullshit. That kind of shit should be illegal.

Base games offer literally nothing nowadays and a lot of people out there definitely can't afford this stuff.

Glad I didn't buy this. And now they are already talking about an "aftermath" type expansion as well.

It really is a great game though. I spent about 80 bucks total only so far between the main game and the DLC the black Friday sale.

The ore you place this, the ore you'll like it as well.

It's a tough call, man. I'm pissed but I love the game.

I'm just so over being nickel and dimed to death.
Not just with games, but life itself. Every other week Disney Plus or Netflix or insurance or something in life is going up (just not my paycheck).

I totally agree. Gaming is an expensive hobby. Constand DLC and microtransactions in just about every game now, especially sports games. EA and 2K will nickel and dime you to death.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 - PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Sept. 19

I need to correct myself....You DON'T have to pay for the remaining Kameos. You can unlock them as you move along. My issue with this and for not knowing is because to the extent of my knowledge, when you hove over/select a kameo you can't use, it says nothing about unlocking it. When i went to the store to purchase the 20 dollar bundle it said "you are about to purchase a product that you already unlocked some items on"....that's when I realized they were unlockable. Again, maybe they do tell you somewhere but I didn't see it.

Also, Ed Boon said there will be a big surprise coming after the second story DLC is released - I'm hoping it's a remaster or the original MK1:

Really? The original MK is SO basic, I don't see how it would even be fun anymore.

Yeah, I love that game. I'm sure that's not what the big surprise is though.

It's probably some stupid guest character.

Maybe, but hopefully it's something bigger - especially for him to say that in-person. I will say this though, Omni-man (guest character...for those that have never seen the show) is excellent to play with. J.K. Simmons voiced him as well.
