Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I was wondering this if y’all have bought or downloaded the gave on 2 different or more consoles and if so, why?
I was thinking of this because I was thinking of playing the Arkham games on PS5 just to see difference in game, even if subtle, difference with controller. Do you do it for performance issues? Some added perks of one version or another that came out later or something? |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Yes, several of the Lego games on the Switch (probably some others too if I think harder) for the portability. Don't think I've double bought a game that I had already finished though.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I have Tom Clancy’s Division (the first one) on Xbox and PS4. Got them both cheap.
Had the PS4 one first, but my brother wanted to play so I got the Xbox version too. Played it two or three times was all. |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I bought Stardew Valley for Switch and PlayStation. I will probably buy it for PC too. I love that game.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
It typically spans generations, like Mario Kart 8, Mega Man, Tomb Raider, Metroid Prime, Beyond Good and Evil, Vanquish, Twilight Princess, Super Mario Sunshine, yadda yadda. Bayonetta might be the most extreme example, which I got on the 360, Wii U, and Xbox Series X.
As far as games I bought multiple times in the same gen on different platforms, the only one that immediately springs to mind is Titanfall 2, which I picked up on the PS4 and then the Xbox One X since (1) it was cheap, (2) could take advantage of the One X’s horsepower, and (3) it’s not like there was much else to buy at launch for the One X! Persona 5 Royal probably holds my land speed record for fastest replacement, even though it technically crosses gens. I bought the PS4 version around Black Friday 2021 and the PS5 version around Black Friday 2022. I never even played the PS4 version before upgrading! |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Mainly years later if there’s a remaster or something. Back in the 360/PS3 era I did have a copy of Arkham Asylum on both consoles. Bought the PS3 version first but picked up a used copy on 360 later on from GameStop. Bought the game again when it came out in the remastered Return to Arkham set on Xbox One.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Off the top of my head:
Resident Evil 4 (GC/PS4/PS3 - digital) Resident Evil Remake (GC/PS4) Resident Evil Zero (GC/PS4) Bulletstorm (PS3/360) Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 and Twin Snakes on the GC. If I include remaster/rereleases for older consoles then the PS3 releases of the PS2 God of War and Ratchet and Clank games would be in there. Also Super Mario All Stars, the rereleases of Yakuza 3 and 4 on the PS4. And then there's things like the Sega Genesis Classics, the Castlevania and Atari 50th Anniversary releases on the PS4, would those count? Cause I still have a bunch of 2600 and Genesis cartridges. Also what about the mini consoles like the NES and SNES Classics? |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Mass Effect trilogy for Xbox 360 and then again for PS4. Finally getting around to playing the remaster this month. :p

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I do it all the time. If we don't count remasters and re-releases, though, it's usually for something like portability (Switch or Steam Deck), because I'm not going to buy the same game on Xbox and PS5.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Yup. I think they've all been cases where I played on PC originally then re-bought on Switch so I can play again handheld. DQ11 (mostly to play it with pixel graphics), and Hollow Knight are the first that come to mind.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Yes.
Not a lot, but to buy it digitally, a remastered version, a collection, or just revisit it. Bioshock series, Bulletstorm, probably some others. Not a lot and usually not for full price but definitely something I have done. |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Not that I remember assuming we’re not counting remasters. But if you want to replay the game and have the money, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I guess I’m a yes. Forgot about RE4 on GC and 360.

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I've gotten bioshock on the PS3, PS4 and the Switch. And the assassin's creed games I've bought on the PS3 then the ezio collection on the PS4, same with the uncharted games from PS3 to PS4, and the Arkham games. And I just recently got Catherine on the switch when I used to have it on the PS3

Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
Donkey Kong: Atari 2600, Commodore 64, and NES. The Atari 2600 version was crap, the C64 version as awesome, and I got the NES version in order to get Donkey Kong Jr. The NES version was disappointing because it omitted the Coal Mine/Cement Factory level.
I think that's the only one. |
Re: Ever bought the same game on different consoles?
I have to ask, do you also have the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong? I'd say that version doesn't qualify for this thread cause it is a completely imagined game, but it's the version that I prefer to play.
