Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024; PC, PS5, Xbox Series)

Who is the Dread Wolf?

Solas, the Dread Wolf. Some say he might be an ancient elven god, but some say not. Others say a betrayer of his people…or a savior who now seeks to rescue them at the cost of your world. His motives are inscrutable and his methods sometimes questionable, earning him a reputation as something of a trickster deity—a player of dark and dangerous games.

Whether you’re new to Dragon Age™ stories or you’ve experienced them all, using Solas’s namesake no doubt suggests a spectrum of endless possibilities on where things may go. But at the core of this, like every past game, is you. If you’re new to Dragon Age, you have no need to worry about not having met our antagonist just yet. He’ll properly introduce himself when the time is right, but we did hint at his return when we announced #TheDreadWolfRises back in 2018.

More Dragon Age: Dreadwolf later this year

We suspect you have questions and they’ll be answered in time. While the game won’t be releasing this year, we’re growing closer to that next adventure. Rest assured, Solas is placing his pieces on the board as we speak. That’s all we have for now, but we hope knowing the official title has sparked some intrigue, as we’ll be talking more about the game later this year!

What do you think #Dreadwolf could mean?

This reminds me that I need to play Inquisition.

I prefer Dreadwolf. Veilguard sounds too much like Seezeguard, as if we were at a buffet in Thedas. In any case, I still have to play Inquisition before I tackle this game.

I don't know about that trailer. Looks a lot more goofy and cartoony then the previous games. I loved the first 3 games so I'm still hyped for it but that trailer is a let down.

re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024; PC, PS5, Xbox Series)

Game looks fun, however I have a question. The last game in the series I played was Dragon Age II, despite always planning to play Dragon Age: Inquisition. Did the last game drop the party control mechanics from the first two games altogether, or is this Mass Effect-esque gameplay an optional playstyle?

It's been like 10 years since I beat Inquisition but I'm pretty sure you could control your party in DA:I but you could also just let the AI do it. It was definitely going more towards Mass Effect style then the previous 2 games but I still thought it was fantastic. And on Dreadwolf even though my initial thoughts on the trailer were middling I have seen some previews of DA fans who have played it and say at least from the limited time they had with it they were very positive on it.

A salad bar at that buffet, to be precise.

Thanks. I love ME but wonder how well I'd like its mechanics regarding combat in a DA game. Not that I haven't played other such games (like The Witcher III: Wild Hunt), but I just don't associate it with DA.

I should play 1-3 (I own them) since they're universally praised and then I can play the pretty new one.

The Halloween date is official, and preorders are up! Best Buy is offering a $10 incentive for preorders.

So they're back to having a silent protagonist? I hate those because they take me out of the game (which I am aware is the opposite intent). Also, nice to see Vincent Price still getting work, despite having died 31 years ago.

The first one was great, the second one was meh, and the third one I don't think I ever finished but it was fun if I recall correctly.

I don't think I can do it, I can't do m&k only games. May just wiki the story and play the new one sometime.

I assume she means mouse and keyboard only games and weirdly enough the first 2 games don't have controller support on PC even though they are played with controllers on consoles.

Also I forgot both 1 & 2 are stuck on PS3 on the PlayStation side. They are backwards compatible for Xbox. Surprised we haven't got a remaster on modern consoles.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024; PC, PS5, Xbox Series)

I paid less than ten bucks for all three so at least it wasn't a great loss that I can't play them. I tried it and everything and yeah no. Even games without native control support allow Steam to translate a gamepad to keyboard, this is the first time I've encountered a game that can't be overridden by a mod or by Steam to use a controller so I didn't even think to look, and I have a lot of old games.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024; PC, PS5, Xbox Series)

I used to be a PC gamer back in the Deus Ex, Baldur’s Gate, Thief, Half-Life days and I never even once needed or wanted a controller. The mouse and keyboard were perfect.

I wasn't aware that Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe were doing the music this time around.

He's performing here at T-Mobile on 10/12. I am considering going.

Yeah I asked you about it when we were there last. Check on ticket prices and I’m down.
