Spider-Man 2 (PS5) - 10/20/23

Re: Spider-Man 2 (PS5) - 10/20/23
I was wondering, was there an explanation for Spider-Man being able to temporarily run on water? That seemed out of left field when I first encountered it.

It took me right at exactly 30 hours to get the platinum. I enjoyed it tremendously. However, I'm not sure how a 3rd game can be bigger/better than this one. This sure felt like a culmination or end of a trilogy rather than a stepping stone where more comes down the road. My only complaint is that after awhile the mob combat feels like a survival of waves by repeatedly using your abilities. Here is my feeling about the next in the series, if and when it happens.

I could see how they can expand on a few things. For example a more involved photography system, would have been fun for the photos to be more of a challenge and even be like Pokemon Snap with JJJ judging you harshly on the quality. I know Robbie is the photography person in this one but that would have been fun.
If MJ is more involved, you could have a double role of researching things while also writing. So say you have some journalist stuff asking the right questions of subjects/doing better research. The better research you do, the better your article quality, and also the more intel that Peter/Miles gets for their mission.
I would also want separate mission types or something that focuses on actually crawling on walls, as opposed to sneaking around from above. Something like being outside a window of a high rise and needing to listen in on a conversation and sneak around from one corner of the building to the other to hear the full conversation. For Spider-Man being a wall-crawler, actual crawling encompasses very little of the gameplay. Even if you jump to a building you don't always stick to it, and the default when going up a building is to run up at full speed.

For shits and giggles last night I was in a pretty good room to string up a bunch of enemies. Turns out 15 is the max before they start disappearing(I had 1-2 more hanging on the right side where that one guy seems all alone).
Also funny enough, I was just doing this for the hell of it and I shot the picture to a friend and his reply was "is this a new trend or something, it's been all over social media." I'm not on social media so was totally unaware. Odd timing coincidence.

This game is so long, but in a good way. I could play this shit forever. Helps that Spiderman is my favorite Marvel character.

I definitely wouldn't call it "so long". 25-30 hours to get the platinum in an open world game is pretty short. I just got the platinum in 28 hours and did everything. That same thing in every other open world game I've played is usually 60 hours+.

I'm sure it helps that the game doesn't make you get the gold medal on the Mysterium challenges to have enough resources to upgrade everything, whereas pre-DLC for the first Spidey, I think you did have to score gold on every challenge.
But yeah, it's a nice length. Long enough to feel significant in scope and to give you plenty to do, but short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome or feel too cluttered with busy work. My main gripe is less about the game itself and more that so many iconic Spider-Man villains are off the board for #3.

Wow, These games just get better with each one as they tighten things up and get rid of the filler. I'm sitting at 32 hours for the Platinum. Sure the first game was longer but some of the collectibles were annoying (birds, Daily Bugle) and all the MJ sequences were beyond slow. Not too many complaints with this one, just a single one. The [keeping it spoiler free] "multi-stage" end game boss battle went on too long. I failed it a number of times and it starts you back at the beginning which is annoying.
The story was phenomenal. I cared about every character. I was so worried about Harry breaking my heart as I grew to really dig his character. I wasn't a fan of Norman's predictable heel turn. I loved all the character designs. MJ and Peter were both improvements. Even Miles having already graced this generation looked cooler. I dug his new hairstyle. That aside, it seemed Kraven got the most attention in the design department. He was the most impressive looking character model.
This is one of the few times I wish the DLC was already ready to go. I'm not ready to put this game aside. So I guess it should have had some more side missions of some type. Actually I kind of wish a game like this would populate the map with a bunch of new content after finishing the game.
Oh well, fantastic game, I just wish it was about 10 hours longer.
I was thankful for this too. There was just one Mysterium I just couldn't get. 30 enemies in under 1:00.
And here's a weird glitch I had earlier when none of the suits would load in the menu which resulted in a cube for Spidey so I was essentially invisible.

The Spidey cube was funny. People were pissed when they patched it.

I’m at 39% and just met Kraven and also took out one of his bases. Beating outposts/bases are one of my favorite things to do in games, but holy heck it took a long time. So many guards to stealth, and too many to just charge in and attack.

I had a weird glitch where I had to drop an injured guy off at an ambulance but he still stayed on my back for quite awhile while wiggling about. I swung through the city for a bit while he went for a ride. Unfortunately, I didn't get to fight another crime with Mr. Tag A Long.

I had another weird glitch where I got knocked down in the middle of the street and a box truck ran over me and got stuck. Spider-man stands up and I'm now standing in the back of this box truck and can't get out. I had to exit to the menu. What was interesting was that the inside of the truck was rendered and had detail. Details that no one will ever see. Kinda wild.

My only quibble is that the triangle button can be finicky when trying to retrieve or activate something. Sometimes I have to stand on top of the box I’m opening to get the proper angle.

That cube glitch makes me wonder, for the physics of the swinging, is the engine treating him as if he’s just that cube, and everything else with his motions is just animation? Unless he gets close enough to smack into something in which case his body will then come into play.
