re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I was kinda tiring of the Batman formula (and bailed after City, never played Origins) so this is a welcome surprise. I'm down for Gotham Knights.

Interesting strategy to introduce new playable characters yet focus on the one that seems to play nearly identical to the one that’s been around for a decade.

I think it’s by WB Montreal. Their logo is shown in the opening.

You could play as everyone of these characters in Arkham Knight.

To me it looks like more of the same and not a big enough jump heading into a next-generation of consoles.

are they good? not really familiar. mechanics (grapple, even scenery and atmosphere) certainly looked like Rocksteady's Batman stuff, but of course hard to tell with short clip...

re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I still have never played Origins so I think I'll give it a shot sometime this year. It was free on PS+ at some point so I have it. And then I bought the season pass sometime when it was on sale. I also never played Blackgate and I have that on PS3 also.

I'm one of the few who really liked Arkham Knight. I'd rank it second being Asylum as my favorite of the Rocksteady trilogy.

re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

Arkham Origins was good but glitchy as hell. We can't have that again.

There's some things in the trailer that kinda contradict the whole story too. If this is the sequel to Arkham Knight, then how did Bruce know Jim Gordon died? At the end of AK, Gordon was still alive. How did Barbara returned to health and became Batgirl again? She was Oracle and was stuck in a wheelchair for a storyline reminiscing of the Killing Joke. Mr. Freeze had left town, being somewhat of a hero and in good terms with the Bat-Family. Why is he back and killing people?

Other than that, the game looks good but I always fear when Rocksteady isn't involved.

I read it takes place in its own universe and has nothing to to with the Rocksteady trilogy.

A Batman games without Batman? What could go wrong? (cough cough...Gotham City Imposters).

That said, the gameplay looks good, as long as this doesn't turn out to be a "games as a service" title.

Yeah, just read that. Kinda disappointing since they are using the same type of gameplay and characters from that world

Gotham Knights Is Officially Not Part of the Arkham Series

By Jamie Lovett - August 22, 2020 03:55 pm EDT
Gotham Knights, the new game from WB Games Montreal, is not a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight. There was some confusion today following the game's official reveal on Saturday during DC FanDome. The game takes place after the death of Batman and includes several members fo the Batman Family featured through the Batman Arkham franchise. And yet, certain things revealed in the trailer did not line up with how Batman: Arkham Knight ended. It appears that Barbara Gordon regained the use of her legs by the time she learned of Batman's death and the death of her father, James Gordon, who survived in Batman: Arkham Knight. ComicBook.com reached out to WB Games Montreal to figure out where Gotham Knights fits into Batman Arkham's continuity. It turns out, it doesn't. WB Games Montreal tells ComicBook.com that, "Gotham Knights is an original story set in DC's Batman Universe and not connected to the Arkham series." Despite picking up in a similar place to where Batman: Arkham Knight left the Arkhamverse, Gotham Knights will start something new.

According to the game's synopsis, "Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family - Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin - to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos. Your legacy begins now. Step into the Knight.

"Gotham Knights is a brand-new open world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman's death. An expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham, and it is now up to these new heroes to protect the city, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops and fear to its criminals. Players must save Gotham from descent into chaos and reinvent themselves into their own version of the Dark Knight."

re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

They had a pretty robust walk-through in August of last year. I don't think this has anything to do with the pandemic (or mostly not)..
