You will be able to play PS4 games on PS5. You probably won't be able to play PS3 games (and you can't play them on a PS4 either).

There will be backwards compatibility - but I don't think it'll stop Sony from remastering recent games like Spider-Man and The Last Of Us II for the PS five.

Will they ever remaster Battlefield Bad Company 2 for us?!

Console gaming is a huge investment of time and money. I know not everyone has $400 to 500 laying around and a few hundred dollars extra after that for new games. So I can understand someone who isn't really into this because they have their gaming resources invested in PC gaming instead.
I didn't get on the PS4 bandwagon until 2 years after launch. I think I got mine around 2015.
I'm not a PC gamer at all. I have a 1 year old Hewlett Packard PC, but it's used strictly for work, e-mail and Internet. I have no idea if it's even capable of gaming.

Assuming a launch around November 20th, that's 45 weeks away. You could save $600 with just $13 a week. Depending on console pricing, that's the console and at least 1 game. I'm hoping they stick to $400 though.
Planning FTW.

It's not like we don't know new consoles are coming. I've stashed $10 here and $20 there for the past couple months(without touching the budget) and have almost enough for the PS5 sitting in an evelope. Next up is saving for launch games and accessories. It helps that there aren't a ton of new releases this year that interest me so that's just some more money to sock away. I saved faster than expected, I could probably pull off a new Xbox as well if I had the desire.

Reminds me of people here at work over the years who eat out a lot then you'll hear them say they don't have any money, can't go here and do this or buy that. I bring mine, have a snack or swing by the house rarely eating out but like 2-3 times a month. I told them they don't see that $6-$9 daily add up because it's basically "Nickel & Dime" but when you say $30 a week x 4 = $120 or so a month x 12 months = a possible $1440.00 a year. Not saying don't eat out period but between eating out every day for lunch, snacks in the morning at the Gas Station, etc...that adds up and you don't even know it.

I make no delusion of the fact that I eat my money to the point that $30/day or $900 a month is my expected minimum at this stage of my life.
Goddamn I'm lazy.

I think a lot of people....gamers and non-gamers...really don't understand the effects now, short term and long term with consumer electronics out of Asia which pretty much is the bulk and majority of what we see and use here in the states but across the globe...of how this bad this Coronavirus is, the toll and economic affect it's slowly starting to take hold of. It was a matter of time we start seeing articles like this and you can bet any and all others from Xbox, iPad, iPhones, TV's, Tablets, chips, etc...will all eventually see this.....

Reportedly costs $450 to make each unit.
So cost to consumer could push $500.

The Coronavirus could affect the PS5, as there could be shortages or a delayed launch.

Or they could delay the launch in hopes of getting the scarce parts they need cheaper next Spring, but then blame it on the Coronavirus.

I don't see how these systems can't be $499 with what's in them. My wallet hopes not, but it's certainly possible.

Yeah I've expected both consoles to be 500 bucks.

The $600 PS3 launch price was a complete failure, wasn't it, opening the door for the 360? They learned their lesson with the $399 PS4. Even with inflation, $499 seems steep unless Microsoft also comes in at that price.

I will probably get a PS5 before a Xbox Series X (or whatever it's called). It's my preferred gaming system and will have exclusive games on it, unlike the MS next gen system. $500 won't break me, but it is a pretty steep price for most.

I am very comfortable with the $499 price-point and expected it to be at least that.

Every console that launched at $500 thus far has been a failure. Hell the Xbox One still hasn't recovered.
That being the case I expect both companies to ignore history altogether and launch at that price.

I wonder if Sony would sell the PS5 at a loss, and recoup those dollars on software. I'd imagine that with their exclusive titles it's certainly a possibility.
