Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Digital Foundry hands-on impressions of the PS5 Pro:
Ultimately, if you do value that fidelity and you either want to see more ray tracing or you prefer to game in a performance mode, then the PS5 Pro could be a worthwhile investment. Of course, there's an argument to be had about the trade-offs between a PS5 Pro and a PC, but certainly in terms of a hassle-free gaming experience at a certain price and visual quality level, the PS5 Pro has its merits. It's unfortunate that the Pro console this generation is as expensive as it is, but it's a different era in terms of how much new process nodes cost - the savings that made Pro consoles workable in the past just aren't around in 2024. |

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
If you just want the non edge anniversary controller, preorders are up on Best Buy and Walmart. It is also up on PS Direct but good luck getting through that queue with everyone trying for the other limited accessories.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I knew there was pretty much no chance that I was going to get that 30th anniversary edition Pro console but since I was off today I got in the queue anyways and sure enough it was gone by the time I got let in so I just ordered the regular Pro.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Big story in the gaming sites about how there are ads everywhere now on the PS5 after the update. I do see game-related ads/news feeds on most game tiles now, but I'm pretty sure I did before. And still there are no ads on the dynamic Welcome screen.

Yeah I have seen the complaints as well, I don't get it. :scratch2:
This is one of the ones I had watched and he goes into details about it: |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Apparently it’s a bug that has been / will soon be resolved. Or at least that’s how Sony is presenting it.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
This is a Demo Showcase of the New Unreal 5.5 Engine. They are using " Echo" from Playstation and there was some confusion as was this actually running on a PS5, PS5 Pro or something else. At around the 55 Minute mark, he does confirm..."This is running on a PS5".....This is truly UNREAL.....

Dead Island 2 is great. Highly recommended for PS Extra members to check out.
I'll check The Last Clockwinder out in PSVR2. Always looked kind of fun but not something I wanted to spend money on. Return to Monkey Island is a nice breezy old school point and click adventure. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
PS5 Pro preorders are up basically everywhere now. Grabbed mine a hair before 10 AM from Amazon; no muss, no fuss.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Well, curiosity got the best of me and since it was ‘only’ $140 in “Like New” condition during the Amazon Prime Deal Days deals (it’s an absolutely absurd $200 new), I went ahead and bought a Dualsense Edge Controller. It is indeed very much like the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. Similar in the sense it has swappable thumb stick heads, back buttons and remappable profiles (but no alternative D-pad here). Switches to limit the travel of the triggers making shooting more ‘hare-trigger’.. Nice firm keep case like the Elite as well. In some ways, I like it better. They have the paddle-like removable back buttons like the Elite, but they also have small semicircular paddle/tabs that I like better for smaller hands. They also have Function buttons below the sticks on the front that makes it easy to change profiles on the fly. I don’t see me doing a ton with the profiles, but it’s nice to know I could if I were ever that motivated. I did, however make a profile for Space Marine 2, which expects you to press L1 if you see a blue aura before an attack to parry and counter, or to press X to dodge an unblockable incoming attack — I mapped those to the two back buttons and it’s much easier and more intuitive for me. I doubt I’ll ever use the replaceable thumb stick modules, but I guess it’s nice that they make them. It’s not as heavy as the Elite, which is a plus for me as I find that controller a touch too heavy for long game sessions. Still feels a little more premium than the standard Dual Sense, but only slightly so. I’m bummed it doesn’t fit in my 3rd party charging stand — apparently it does fit in the Sony one.

What’s the grip like? Bc the Elite has grip whereas standard does not.

It does have some rubberized grips on the back of the part where your finger rest. Not over the entire back. Not as grippy as the Elite, but different from the standard Dual Sense. Those two white parts are rubberized https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...b7a572ba65.png |

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Amazon finally gave me an estimated delivery date on the PS5 Pro: 11/11, so not day one -- at least if the estimate holds -- but I'm okay with that.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Question. Black Friday is coming up soon and I'm sure PS is going to offer a discount for PSN+ Did anyone let their subscription lapse last year after the huge price increase last year? And do you have plans to re-subscribe?
Or are you out for good and even the BF price is still too expensive? I'm not talking about you guys that have grandfathered subscriptions that are still valid for years to come. I realize that it's probably not worth it for those who are only casual gamers. And as we get older, most of us have less free time. I'm debating about it, but I realized over the last year that I probably wouldn't use it enough to make it worth it. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
IIRC the last few times they didn't allow you to add on to your subscription with the discount, only start it, so I usually just let it expire then wait for a new offer to renew. They usually have a Black Friday sale, then one a few months later (I forget what the event is) early in the year and I think I'm on that cycle.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I think I got 3 years from now. Think I got in a while ago a deal of some sort. Didn’t even remember getting 3 years.

I'm only keeping my PS+ Essential membership so I can play online with my friend that lives out of town.
