I wasn't sure myself, so I found this.
If you currently don't have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you'll still be able to play local multiplayer and create levels for people to play on your own console. You just won't be able to access any online content in the game's Course World.

They don't make local coop easy.

Finished the story mode this weekend and liked it quite a bit. Glad they included that mode as while I like playing fan made levels I only dabbled in that part a little bit so far. I’ll probably go back and play more created levels at some point.

I had zero interest in speed running previously but the "speedrun" 20 or 30 second levels in Mario Maker 2 are pretty much the only thing I play. M6R-TYG-8BG is a good example. I sucked at first but I now beat ones with 1%-5% clearance rates usually in less than 5 or 10 tries.

Yeah, the addition of Link is pretty cool. The rest of the stuff is cool too, but I don’t make my own courses as much. Suppose could still make for new interesting created levels to try though.

yes, it is up. And to play as link, you need to find a board that has a "master sword" in it. Once you touch the sword you turn into link. Once you get hit, you turn back to mario/luigi.

Supposedly there are two Nintendo made levels as well but I couldn't find them. I haven't finished story mode so maybe that is why.

We've hardly done as much with this one as we did with the first. I still like to fire it up and find interesting levels but I hate all the auto-scrolls that play anime theme songs or the giant death trap scenarios.
I guess it shows it's not that easy to design a good video game level.
I did find some that I really enjoyed - imagine a sequel to the first SMB back on the NES, but it was all set in swamps and bayous. I found about 3 or so levels like this, and they were very atmospheric and fun to experience, if not crazy difficult.

The world maker option has potential to be cool. That could essentially let people make their own full games. As is the game is fun, but the levels don’t really have as much meaning just being stand-alone. Having them all strung together gives more a sense of purpose to competing the levels and the world in turn.

I'm not in this sub forum much. And I didn't think I'd be almost 40 and watching Twitch gamers. But this guy plays the super expert levels on Mario Maker 1 and 2. And his skills are fascinating.
