Sega Genesis Mini coming 9/19/19 for $80
Will include 40 games (10 announced so far) and two three button controllers.

I'm going to say this is unnecessary. I have the sega genesis collection disc for PS3 and that's good enough for me.

I hope Sega learned from the mistakes Sony made with the PlayStation Classic. Plus, there's already a Sega Genesis Collection already out for the PS4, XB1 and the Switch. I checked at GameStop and the description says over 50 titles are in the game.

The thing about the NES and SNES classics were not only the perceived rarity, but also the fact that there weren't 20 iterations of standalone systems that played these games. The subpar Genesis "50 games in one" systems have been out for years and years clogging up shelves, they'll have to pull out some real gems (like Herzog Zwei, which may have even been on some of these) to get traction here.
Now give me a Saturn or Dreamcast, systems that most people probably haven't played all the games, and now we're talking.

It's hard not to think they missed the boat not getting this out alongside the SNES Classic in '17. All the hype around classic systems is gone, the PS Classic pretty much ruined the idea, and Sega lacks Nintendo's cachet to begin with. It looks like a quality entry that will underperform.
And 3-button pads, come on. Not only is the Japanese release getting the proper controllers, you limit your potential games selection by doing this.

I do agree though that they probably missed the boat by not having this out a couple years ago alongside the NES or SNES Classic Editions. Also the fact that the shitty AT Games versions of the Genesis mini’s exist and have been out for a while likely means not a lot of people are going to care about this release.

Like others have said the real reason this will never be as popular as the Nintendo ones is Sega has already released multiple Genesis collections (not the systems but the games on disc) in HD and they're way cheaper than this package. Nintendo never releases huge bundles of their systems like this before the minis.

I would be interested if they include the "strike" games....Urban Strike, Jungle Strike and Desert Strike. I played the hell out off those, and remember them being really hard to beat.

I would think one of the Streets of Rage will be on this. I’d be surprised if we don’t get Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The good thing about the mini is that it supposedly has an actual cartridge port so you can use any games you still have.
I guess with USB ports, you can use other controllers with it.

Plus the Sega Ages releases have actually improved QOL stuff on a lot of these games... like I don't think I'm going back to playing Phantasy Star 1 without an automap.
