If they can do the same with their franchise like God of War did, that would be pretty amazing. Unfortunately I don't see that happening.

Yeah. I mean, when you have a huge studio whose sole reason for existing is to produce Halo games, you're gonna get Halo games.

Santa Monica Studios isn't exactly pumping out games either. Other than The Order 1886, GoW is their other major release this generation. I think it just depends on the talent and vision of the team :)

To be fair, though, they have had at least one cancelled project this gen. 343i also has somewhere around twice as many employees (although not everyone there is making games, since all things Halo route through them).

With that sort of overhead and a more rigid definition of who they are / what they do / what they make, it's a much taller order for 343i to have the freedom, flexibility, and many-years-long-runway to do what SMS did, although Halo really is in dire need of needing to be shaken up. I'd love to be wrong, though!

The Order 1886 was led by Ready at Dawn too.

At this point, everything seems to be pointing to just incremental upgrades anyway. I don't need a new "next gen" system at this point.

I don't follow PC gaming much, how much better do games look or run on a top-end PC vs an XBX? I began to think that we needed a next (current) generation of consoles when multi-system FPS games like Metro were clearly designed for PCs and just didn't run well on a PS3 or a 360. I haven't really seen that yet with this generation of consoles

Well, one of the reasons I gave up on PC gaming was the incremental cost of upgrading...which is still the case today. Entry level game rigs are around $700-$900 depending on components. But I could never understand...or justify...seeing a video card alone cost as much as a console or your average "Home PC"....they're still up there in the $500-$1000 range. Granted, PC games offer way more options, flexibility, mods along with deals/cost....

What's sort of fell by the wayside...which is a shame....are the 'Steam Machines"....which were to sort of be a bridge between console & High End PC gaming....to fill a void of a small system, with good PC Power but the ease of Console Gaming. Sadly it's the Valve Software that has had issues and some are throwing in MS in it's place. The Steam Machines were going to be just like PC, smaller yet upgradable. Great concept, just hasn't caught on....prices vary from $500 to $1000.

Re: E3 2018 - June 12th - June 14th

It's funny, the most popular PC games these days aren't pushing graphics the way they used to since they're mostly stylized multiplayer games (Fortnite, PUBG, LoL, DOTA2, Overwatch) so I don't even think PC games are really pushing the envelope much.

The big multi platform games look/play a little better with better anti-aliasing and slightly better textures, and especially with higher refresh rates and variable refresh rates that are only just now slowly making their way over to consoles.

The cost of upgrades is overblown though, no one is forcing you to upgrade every year or two. Helps that CPU performance hasn't seen huge performance leaps for awhile too and video card cycles have also slowed.

Metro and Anthem look to be pushing the systems pretty hard. It will be interesting to see how the Pro/X versions compare to the base systems.

It's funny, now that moderately priced laptops can support higher end games, they games have started sliding backwards in terms of requirements.

Though some are just poorly optimized (PUBG, Kingdom Come, etc; )

He's assuming it was the sequel to Bloodborne. It was just an unannounced game from the studio.

Bloodborne is one of my favorite games this generation, but I feel like a sequel would be a mistake. The strange vagueness of that entire world helped make it and felt very self-contained.

They need to make a new "Spiritual Successor" IP.

Looks like this one is developed by Avalanche, who made the recent Mad Max game.

Well...frankly no-one really knows what it means since it wasn't more than 30 seconds....but...the fact that....

A...came from FromSoftware Studios who made Bloodborne.....
B...visually; could be right out of Bloodborne Universe and that line at the end...

From the 2017 Game Awards in December...judge for yourself

...yet more info came out today on a game site...Gamepur and the article states....

Recent rumors have pointed out that the Shadows Die Twice teaser from Japanese developer From Software is indeed an anticipation of a Bloodborne 2 PlayStation 4 exclusive project coming at some time.

Anyway, a new rush of speculations coming from ResetEra user Omnipotent is claiming that these rumors are not true and that the game is indeed something completely different and more importantly coming on PC and Xbox One, alongside a PS4 version.

I only remember three things about RAGE :

1) I think it was supposed to look really good on the 360, for the time.
2) I hated it and only played it a couple of times.
3) It dropped like a stone in price a couple of months after release.

Other than that, I don't remember a thing about the game.

I completed Rage and couldn't really tell you much about it, other than John Goodman voiced a character. That's the long lasting impression the game made

Same here. When I think of Rage, I think of Jesse playing it in Breaking Bad. That’s it.

Same. And the version he played was actually totally different from the real game since he was using a fake gun.

So it's the Doom redux set in the world of Mad Max? I can accept that.

K&AJones 05-15-18 01:06 PM

Re: E3 2018 - June 12th - June 14th

Yep....take Fallout 4, add some Borderlands, stir in some Doom and top it off with Mad Max Movies....that's going to be a serious wacko ride...
