Both it and Lawbreakers, which also comes out today, are carving out a relatively new game marketing niche -- digital-only (or digital and Limited Run only) games with half the content of full games at half the price. I see the appeal, but for me it means no rentals, no GCU discount and too expensive to blind buy on impulse. I will wait for a sale.

I am a bit over halfway into this..

The game is one of the best looking and easily the best sounding game I have ever played. (must be played with headset to fully enjoy the sound design)

The story has captured my attention...I usually find video games attempts to have deep subjects to be lame...but I find this journey into insanity fascinating.

Some of the puzzles are annoying, but others are brilliant. Combat is a much smaller piece of the game than I thought it would be...but the parts that are there are fun..with the boss fights being really fun.

Out of nowhere this budget title shoots into game of the year conversation...

The game has received ratings in Australia and Taiwan for Xbox, so it looks like this might release on Xbox soon. I've been so close to buying this on PS4 a couple times, but i'd probably get it on Xbox if it's X enhanced.

Just finished this today. Almost had a game breaking bug at the end. Senua kept getting stuck on the environment and dying. Burned through probably 7 deaths before getting through to Fenrir. It was getting kind of stressful since you are limited to the number of times before you have to start the game over. It's old school in that regard but it really amps up every encounter and forces you to make every fight count. No "going through the motions" here, gotta stay on your toes.

All that aside, this is easily my favorite game since Life is Strange. Just an amazing experience. Those looking to get in on the Xbox, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME WITHOUT HEADPHONES!
I played most of it with and gave it 10-15 minutes without headphones just to check it out and it was totally different. Headphones really are the difference between playing a game and going through an experience. Senua is another amazing character from Ninja Theory (Nariko from Heavenly Sword was one of my favorites from last gen). Senua suffering from psychosis (thus the player experiencing it) is one of the coolest mindfucks since Eternal Darkness. Couple that with the dark and very heavy story steeped in Norse mythology, amazing soundtrack, killer mo-cap work, and beautiful design and you have a perfect blend for a great game.

Yeah, everything I've read about the game elsewhere was to play with headphones. Helps that I love story heavy games. I went ahead and preordered on Xbox since it's 10% off and I have a bunch of Xbox credit.

Headphones are really a must with this one. The game is literally 5 times more tense with them on.

I spent a little time trying to play this and just couldn't get in to it. The puzzles just annoyed me and didn't click for me at all.

Felt the same way - puzzles weren't difficult, but far too laborious/arduous with all the back & forth walking around. And the fights were way too rudimentary hack & slash.
Honestly, the only thing the game had going for it was the atmosphere and sound design. Everything else was pretty lame.
