There's still a bit of a markup, cheapest I can find on eBay is $94 shipped for a new one.

Also, a number of scalpers are selling modded ones pre-loaded with additional games. These are listed for $130 and up.

There is not only zero markup at that price, but the seller is probably losing money after tax, shipping, pp, and ebay fees. Do the math.

Well, I mean, eBay adds tax itself if its owed, but a lot of sellers are out of state. Don't really know the Paypal and eBay fees. I was primarily thinking of "markup" in terms of how much more the customer has to pay over retail, not whether the seller is making a profit.

Also, that one was a bit of an outlier, as most of the other listings were in the $100-$120 range for an unmodded one.

Worldwide sales of Super NES Classic Edition have reached four million units.

Nintendo announced the sell-through milestone during its latest financial results briefing.

They just announced the Switch sold 14.86 million units, the SNES classic has sold 25% of that.

Think about that for a second: a retro system from 28 years ago, sold almost a 1/4 as much as the newest system did.

So when does Nintendo truly begin to appreciate the legacy they have and start getting better at making these retro consoles more readily available and the retro games more obtainable on virtual console?

They sold 4 million units between basically October and January. I'd say they're doing a great job churning those buggers out.

Well, there's a significant price difference between the two as well. And it's not the same as the console from 28 years ago, it just plays the same games (which it is pre-loaded with).

Nintendo has said that the Switch Online service which launches in Sept 2018 will come with some form of Virtual Console:

It's a novelty thing, though. I mean if they released all of these on VC, I doubt many would even care (with the exception of Starfox 2). I'm still convinced that the relative scarcity of these also plays some factor in demand.

Re: The inevitable SNES Classic is coming (inc. Starfox 2!; 21 games, 9/29/17, $80)

I think there are wildly different markets for these things. You can spend $80 on a cute, retro device with pseudo-original controllers that is simple to use and comes with 20 games ($4 each) and be done. Not to mention the ease of hacking the thing to play even more.

Or you can spend $300 on a console that, while it does other things, maybe you don't care? Plus another $5-$8 per game to download, once they're slowly released.

I want to purchase these games once and have them work on every N device going forward.
I want to have them be portable on the DS/Switch line.
I want online multiplayer.
I want cloud saves.
I want to give Nintendo my money.

But none of that has happened over the course of Wii, DS, 3DS, WiiU, and (so far) Switch. There's no reason to think they're going to change that at this moment in time.

Nintendo has done okay with demand this time around. It's still far from a typical product where you can just walk into the store on any given day and find stock on the shelves.

That said, they were also very clear in the same announcement that they're 100% fine with the way things stand. They flatly said that these Classic units are an attempt to upsell lapsed gamers of that era into a Switch. There's no indication of any desire to make them more focal in their lineup.

Haven't seen any news about this in a few months. It looks to be still going in and out of stock online. Can't really speak for in-store availability.

Amazon reseller listings have dropped to around $100 including shipping. Checking eBay, it looks like a few Chinese knock-offs have entered the market for $30-40, although what look like possible legit consoles are starting around the $94 range.

I can't even sell my two extras for what I paid for them around here. I didn't buy them to flip, I had a preorder that I didn't think would be filled but were and then I bought one for a friend that flaked.

This is right around the time Nintendo stated they would cease production. Hold tight and you'll have no problem unloading those online in about two months.

Curious how demand will be when the original NES classic goes for sale this summer as reported.

These (SNES classic) are still relatively hard to find, but seems like most have managed to get one with a little effort.

They didn't specifiy anything other than they were continuing production "into 2018."

https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...er-NES-Classic
Due to incredible demand for the upcoming Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, Nintendo plans to ship the retro-inspired product into 2018. Originally, shipments were announced to cease at the end of this calendar year.
Now, they did announce that they're bringing back NES Classic "Summer 2018," so realistically they'll have to stop production on the SNES Classic at some point to start the NES Classic. But "Summer" could mean "August," so they could still produce the SNES Classic for a few more months.

I read "into 2018" as about now at the latest. It's not "through 2018", and I think intentionally not specified all the way through the reintroduction of NES Classic. But yeah, no one outside knows for sure.

If you want to unload those duplicates, a few dry months at retail are going to be your best bet.

Another month, and no news on Nintendo ceasing production.

They had already halted production of the NES Classic by this point last year:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/...e-nes-classic/

It looks like it still goes in and out of stock online.

I haven't seen one in store the past month or so though at my local Target where I had seen them nearly every time I was there the previous couple months, so they may be switching over to build up NES stock. Speaking of NES Classic, it seems odd that I get a Facebook sponsored ad for those Chinese NES Classic knock-offs, seems like an easy thing for Nintendo to block by contacting Facebook.

Nintendo probably tries, but it's like a game of whack-a-mole as the "companies" advertising them come and go. They probably make enough sales to justify paying for the ads and running them up until they get banned, and then make a new "company," rinse, repeat.

There's a lot of bootleg consoles on eBay too, it's the same problem.

Is the European version the same as the U.S. unless this is a Russian bootleg?

The European version looks different on the outside, to match the different design the original SNES used in Europe. The European design is the same as of the "Super Famicom" in Japan.

The European SNES "Mini" has the same games as the US version. The Japanese version has a few different games.

Also if you're thinking of buying a euro version, you will need a power adapter.

Or a plug adapter, since the UK power adapter will work with US 100-120V 60hz as long as you adapt the plug.

Or, use a different USB 1.5A power adapter you have lying around.

There actually is no UK power adapter. Nintendo cheaps out over there and only ships a USB cable.

Don't forget lots of people are using straight USB power with these, though, so that's another possibility.
