REDMOND, Wash., July 14, 2016 – If you see a Nintendo Entertainment System on store shelves this holiday shopping season, you haven’t entered a time machine. (Unless everyone around you is wearing acid-washed jeans and neon leg warmers. If that’s the case, you may have unknowingly walked through a rift in the space-time continuum.) The most likely scenario is you are setting eyes on the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, launching in stores on Nov. 11 at a suggested retail price of $59.99. That’s right: The NES is back! But this isn’t the same NES that you fondly remember. This new nostalgia-fueled system is a near-identical, mini replica of Nintendo’s original home console and plugs directly into your high-definition TV using an included HDMI cable. The console comes complete with 30 NES games built in, including beloved classics like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN, and Kirby’s Adventure.
“We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is ideal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers.”
The system comes packaged with an HDMI cable, an AC adapter and one NES Classic Controller, which is patterned after the iconic design of the original NES controller. I have a top loader NES and a NESX (for those familiar) but this thing is really hooking me with the HDMI interface. And the selection of games is really good. I was hoping there was a USB port somewhere (flash drive hello!), but I know better since Nintendo is attached to this. $59.99 is the cost of one game these days which is quite excellent and I can use my old carts (hopefully castlevania 3 works). Shit, I want one.

Are you thinking this little guy will play your original cartridges? If so, I hate to disappoint you. Doubt it's upgradable or expandable.
Come to think of it, NOA might have a Super Nintendo Classic Edition in the pipeline for next year. Wishful thinking.

I don't think it has a cartridge slot, the shrunken down size would be the flap is decoration at its size.
It would be nice if you could download new games to it, I wouldn't mind adding more of my favorites.
Did they ever add the missing 4th level back to Donkey Kong in any of these emulated releases?

Cool I guess...but there is a reason I have kept my CRT set up and my old systems...I love playing older games on my crt..scan lines and all..

I'll probably buy one of these to support Nintendo. I've built so many RasPi and Xbox/Dreamcast emulation stations over the years that I need to. Plus it just looks cool. Very solid game line-up as well, just needs Blaster Master.

Enough already, just give us news about the NX and what it's all about. But this does look cool, would pay at most 40 bucks for it though.

I've run older systems on big screen TVs before and the interesting thing is that the really older systems don't look as bad because, while they were low resolution blocks and lines, they were fairly clean lines.
The systems that look bad are the ones that were trying to use blending and shading and such (like the N64, the Saturn, etc), those just look cluttered and messy on a big screen.

I'm not sure about buying this, we already have a few games in Virtual Console.
If it had included the Japanese SMB2 The Lost Levels that would make it an auto buy.

Small quibble; I do wish it would've had Castlevania III instead of II. And while Super C is fine, Contra would've been nice too.
Though I'd much rather get the SNES equivalent, even though I already have perfectly good working SNES and 40 of my favorite games on it.

In the same vein, I wish it had Tecmo Super Bowl instead of just Tecmo Bowl. Also surprised it wasn't regular Contra over Super C.

See...I played Castlevania II more than III actually, but I'm guessing the reason they don't include III is the usual emulation issues. Contra would have been also preferred over Super C as well. I would have liked to see River City Ransom personally. They could have swapped that out with Double Dragon II or Ghosts & Goblins or Balloon Fight for that matter. Would have also liked to see the original Dragon Warrior or Ultima III. Okay, now I'm just being greedy

I did too, but that was only because II wasn't linear and tough to figure out where to go and what to do next. III was pretty straight forward, and just a more fun action/adventure Castlevania game, more arcade-like compared to the more RPG-ish II, which was far more boring and monotonous than III.
If this thing is the success that I know it will be, I'm sure they'll put out an SNES version in about a year or so.
