Walked into Walmart at 7am and picked one up. They wouldn't sell me more than one. I was hoping to get all my Christmas shopping done already. Oh well.

Well that was easy. I walked into a Target at 8:30, walked back to electronics and a staff member asked "Are you here for a Super Nintendo?"

I have a Wally World preorder but started finding out late last night that many people were getting backorder notices with indications of cancellation on 10/8. Fearing I wouldn't get one I resolved just to try this morning to be safe.
My Target is super well-organized when it comes to these sales. Line was smooth, manager came out several times to discuss stock with people and I was out the door at 8:10 (17/50). Arrived at 5:45 a.m. Everyone was pleasant and talking nostalgic.
There's a TRU further down the parking lot and it had three people in line. Once we found out the stock number at our store, I drove over and told them to come to Target since it opened at 8am as opposed to 10am and had plenty of stock. They were grateful for the information!
I had to run back home and get my kid for school so I won't get to play until tonight but I'm super pumped.

Edit: Actually this place is only like 5 blocks away, so I guess I'll just trot over there and see what's going on.

I watched Target stock continue to deplete all morning long at my surrounding stores on BrickSeek. By the time I got the kids to school, the closest Target had 5 left (out of 150) and the next closest had 65 (out of 150) so I went there.
A young woman marched in directly in front of me, while a dad tried to convince his toddler to get going behind me. We approached the electronics counter and the young man said, "S-N-E-S?" We all said yes and were allowed to purchase one per household. They were ready, stock stacked neatly in a cage cart behind the counter. Friendly young men, happy to watch the nostalgia roll over we Gen Xers. Funny, they said "S-N-E-S," as we always pronounced it "Nes" and "S-Nes" as kids.
I also had $30 worth of gift cards I'd been holding onto, including the $5 one I got for getting a free flu shot at Target Minute Clinic this month. That's $55.81 after tax, less than I paid for the NES Classic. By the time I left Target, BrickSeek said my closest store was sold out and by the time I got home in ten minutes, the store I went to had gone from 60 to 30. Guess everyone wrapped up dropping their kids off at school!
While I'm grateful I got this one on release day, no sweat, I can't give Nintendo praise for doing what they should have done in the first place, in terms of supply and demand. That would be like me asking my wife to thank me for finally unloading the dishwasher.
Off to work and a busy weekend, so we'll see when I'm actually able to play. Monday is my day off so that may be my first true date with this beautiful little link to the past.
Draven, which Target did you end up at? Richfield is our closest and I went to Southdale because of stock.

Went to my Best Buy this morning about 6:50 and there were maybe 20 people in line ahead of me. About 7:00 a staff came out and gave tickets mine was #22, look like he had maybe 50 tickets I saw in the folder he was holding. Now I have to wait for store open to pick up mine. Happy I got one.

I ended up with one from Target and one from Best Buy. Not sure what I'll do with the second as these appear they won't retain their value like the NES. I'm sure I can easily find a friend to give it to.

Went to nearest GameStop. Had 27 in stock and I was 19 or 20 in line so I was able to get one. Of course some asshole in line was bragging about buying so many of the classic nes and selling them for $300 a pop. He was a few people behind me so hopefully he didn't make cutoff.

Same. Also never called the N-E-S a Nes.
N-E-S, S-N-E-S, Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

I can recall using the word "Nes" for the NES Advantage joystick controller, but I don't think I ever referred to the console that way. I think I referred to it that way as a kid because it didn't occur to me that NES was an abbreviation for the name of the console, and it was spelled in all caps on the box.

Yeah, it was "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo" whenever I said it out loud.

There's a Gamestop next to the coffee shop I get my morning coffee from before heading to work, and the dudes in line were basically the worst stereotype of "loser gamer" you could imagine. Fat, unkempt, wearing sweats, obviously not working, etc. It made me feel a little better about not being able to jump through the hoops required to procure one of these today.

Just got a text from the Amazon Treasure Truck, selling these bad boys. Two taps later, I have my SNES classic waiting for me. That was easy.

At least it sounds like most of us who tried to get one have been successful. My Walmart was good about the one per customer rule and it was pretty well organized. We were all in the site to store area and I was like seventh in line. A few friends got there early and we brought our Switches with and played some rounds of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for a while and then I played a bit of Sonic Mania. There were some oddballs but mostly a decent group. Probably about thirty people there so I'd guess that most people who showed up got one. Glad I went out last night rather than chancing it this morning.
