I am a very left leaning atheist who lives in the religious south with a **** ex wife who preaches at our daughter and sends books about giving up being gay and tries to pray her "gay" away.....you missed your assessment of what I was trying to say (and what I am) hard...I guess what they say about assumptions is true.
I actually laughed my ass off at a lot of what they game did...but the story missions were preachy...They tied me to a chair and wanted me to listen to 4 different characters go on an on about right/wrong and then let me run around killing everything and everyone in the game..then tried to make me feel bad about those choices. (and with the ending I know what they were trying to do here) The game was not written well enough to balance such issues..so I call it preachy. Probably not the best use of the word ever... I admit.

No I just simply don't get what the hell you saw in this game. I never once felt it was preachy at all. I think maybe you are letting your personal problems seep into other aspects of your life.
Its a game. A fictional story with tongue in cheek. I never felt any game in this series ever tried to preach or try to be overly realistic in morals.

wow! i played a few minutes in the compound in the beginning, the character models are pretty great. very realistic. i don't play too many of these realistic games (except for CoD games), people and surroundings, but this is damn impressive...

Yeah, I agree. They shove their message down your throat at every opportunity, from the sermons, to the music, to the someone-should-be-fired-for-this "gameplay" elements around the forced plot shit.
Seed has an image problem. You know, killing Boomers owners while they are holding hands. Torturing people. Lining them up against the wall. Forcing kids to eat their parents. "It's your fault; you did this." says Seed. No, it's not. I'm stopping a murderous cult. You, on the other hand, are murdering people.
A stopped clock ...

When I first saw and learned what FC5 was going to be about...my first thought was...."I'm not getting it because of the setting, story and timing seemed to have a "Political Flavor" to it....with being in the middle of America's Heartland with a Religious overtone....
With the "preaching part"....well this could've been easily say somewhere in the Middle East with some wacko saying "God told him to do_____" with some area being terrorized. But Ubisoft did well with eliminating references to God while tying mainly to John Seed, like all the White Bibles with his logo on them. All those staffs being used to stab people having his sign instead of a cross. More I played the more I thought John Seed wasn't talking to God, he thought he was God along with his wacko followers.
But to counter that Ubisoft instilled a We Americans Aren't Taking This Crap resistance with Americanism along with a vocal and involved NPC's out there. Playing along on this side you get the feel of it doesn't matter some religious wacko, cartel wacko, terrorist wacko, evil country dictatorship wacko...We Americans are going to kick your butt....which I've love playing so much....give me a dozen of these NPC Hired Guns, drop me in FC4 and we'll clean up the country in no time...

Overall I'm liking this game. I wouldn't say it's has good as three but I think it's better than four. The addition of planes and helicopters makes for a lot of fun. I'm not sold 100% on the perks system. It reminds me a lot of Wolfenstein and AC:O but it isn't done as well. Once you get all the easy ones, your basically forced to do prepper stashes.
Still I'm having a lot of fun.

Fired this up last night after a two week break and for some goddam reason, I can't make any vehicle go faster than 1 mph using the right trigger. When I googled it, I see that people using an Elite controller are experiencing this issue (although I didn't have it before my vacation). Very odd and frustrating.

I have an Xbox but had similar issue, turned out to be controller with hair triggers, only counted it as if I was barely holding down accelerator. Turn it off, game just got a lot easier and less frustrating.
I had the same problem on xbox. Played with the elite controller at first, avoiding car missions. Switched to an old controller after a few hours and suddenly the cars accelerate. So it's a weird controller related bugg. Try switching controllers if possible.

You know, I'm not digging the open world in this... while the graphics are nice, it's just kinda bland, both the topography, and the overall setting (especially compared to FC4), and it's all kinda samey. It bores me wandering/driving/flying around. Thankfully arcade mode mixes things up a bit.

Was looking around on this...I've never seen it on the PS4 but some have....and found a few below...

Re: Far Cry 5 - 3/27/18
Despite having been so wholly and completely obsessed with Far Cry 4, I just haven't really been able to get into FC5.
I miss hunting to craft, surprisingly. I miss the deliriously over the top weapons. I miss things like chucking a hunk of meat into an outpost and watching animals overtake it for me. I miss seeing how many different ways I can clear out an outpost without even stepping foot into it (which you certainly can do in 5, but it doesn't feel like I have as many different ways to do that). The variety of planes and helicopters aren't as infectiously fun as hopping into a gyrocopter and trying to push it to its limits. The game doesn't inspire me to experiment with the wingsuit like I did in 4. I'm not really seeing perks that excite me. The endlessly respawning enemies can be annoying; y'know, you clear out an outpost, try to talk to someone there, and it takes several attempts because peggie trucks keep pulling up and interrupting. The open world isn't nearly as interesting to explore as 4 was (which, I have to admit, is the only other Far Cry game I've played).
Maybe it gets better as it goes along. I've cleared out everything in John's territory (aside from the bugged mission with the gas tanker that vanished) and just started Jacob's side of the county.

I am really enjoying this but I agree with everything you said Adam, other than the locale. I'm loving the setting more than 4. I do miss the mountainous areas to scale though. FC5 just seems to missing all the "fun" that made me love FC4.
I too am still in John Seed's area.
*edit - misspelled Seed.

Re: Far Cry 5 - 3/27/18
I might put it a different way; they seem to have gone for easy fun. Some of the missions and characters are fun. Baby delivery and Widowmaker, for example.
I played the previous installments until my eyes bled, but not this one. Once it was finished I tried to play more, on hard, different strategies, etc, but it just doesn't click for that, not in the way the previous games did.
Does the enemy AI seem worse than previous versions?
EDIT: I'm trying to get in to a run where I only do takedowns/melee. I also MUST stop to rescue people any time I see them in danger from the cult. I allow myself to use a silenced pistol to stop moving cult vans, etc.

Like Adam, I loved attacking outposts with different methods in FC4. So far the only method that works for me in FC5 is take out as many as possible using stealth/melee and then blast away once caught.

The Stealth is fun but I've used various Guns For Hire including the Specialist. I've got the option for Two Guns so throw Nick in the air, one good one on the ground, chunk a few of the Vicinity Explosions and then toss some Bait and your set for a typical FC Raid
...and if you run into those Heavy Armor dudes, that's where Bait comes in real handy if just to distract them....and if a Bear shows up, shoot them with a flaming arrow; they'll light everything up....
I'm taking a break from the game this week since Elder Scrolls Online has 100% XP Bonus up for thei anniversary. I was actually looking forward to God of War and giving that a try (never played any other games) but had so much fun with FC4 couldn't resist and no regrets....

I guess I'm not far enough along to have unlocked a weapon slot but it sucks having to choose between my sniper rifle and a fully auto rifle. I'd like both dammit!

Right now, I'm using the Optimism shovel as my melee, the M-79 grenade launcher for my handheld weapon, a decked-out SA50 sniper rifle, some generic rocket launcher, and the Magnopulser for close combat. I'm definitely looking forward to goofing around more with bows.

I'm not liking this one near as much as 4. I've already taken out one boss, Faith and I'm just not feeling it. I'm doing ok without using any of the crafted boosts and haven't even really felt the need to buy the fancy weapons as I'm going just fine with the regular ones. Also I've got so many perk points already I've picked just about everything so there's no need to even really be considerate of your choices as you'll be easily able to get them all anyway.

Re: Far Cry 5 - 3/27/18
Well I completed the game and I completed practically all the challenges and still grinding trying to find perk points for the final few skills.
A lot of the skills are not great to be honest, but par for the course with this kind of game.
Also, I have serious doubts about the poster who claimed he got 100% in 11 days. Its not the task, or perks or things like that, its actuay buying all weapons, all skins and all attachments. Take serious money to get everything. I completed the game pretty fast (maybe a day or two after him) and I was only at 71% completion. And I had put in a serious amount of hours on the game.
I have actually not gone back to the game for a few days now. Gonna grab God of War this week and move on to that.
