I don't like this newest add-on, Black Armory. What even is it? I've already played through most of it, and one fetch quest after another (doing things in places I've already done), only to make me tackle something that I'm 100 (!) light levels too low for. No new areas, no story content, no new unique missions - just really fucking lazy all around. It should be called "Grinding, the Add-On"

Agreed

Too many new games coming and games I have to play. The money I wasted on this is gone, shooting more aliens wont make up for this

To Bungies credit, they didn't market it as anything other then "more end game content". They specifically said it wouldn't have a any cinematic story. That being said BA has also killed any desire I had to play as much as I have been.

My brother is grinding away at leveling up and getting the weapons. He's enjoying it.

I guess it's for those who don't mind the grind it takes to get there... plus, he's got a crew that he loves to play it with.

I've seen and heard this referenced more about D2: The Foresaken more than I saw/heard in D1 and even early days of D2. And you're correcct if those who don't mind the 'Grind'...but if it gets to a point where it's all about "Grinding for ______"....that sort of is counter-active of enjoying the game as a whole.

The way I've looked it, Bungie sort of made the game like a giant funnel...everyone has loads of options and stuff to get starting out(top) but toward the end(bottom) it's about a handful of weapons and gear specific items that's very narrow with very low drop % chance....hence grind, grind, grind.....while it appears a vast part of the game is rendered useless and/or unneccessary (maybe wrong in this area).

I still feel Bungie could've expanded on the characters in game by maybe playing them or as a side quest like the Guardians in their early days. And for the life of me I cannot understand why they couldn't conjure up at least one more differnt playable Guardian. About everyone else can find the means to introduce a 'New Character" that always breathes new life in the game. No offense here but Warframe started out with four and now we have (36) Frames....

Still on the fence and no doubt we had fun with the game especially D1. But the last time I played...about couple of months before The Foresaken...I felt after 3-4 hours I actually took steps "Backwards". I talked to friend last night who was in a group and all they wanted to do was Raid, Raid, Raid...and I asked is there anything else in the game and she said apparently not....which is why I used "The Funnel" description. Maybe it's a bit better and with more to do but after talkig to some I still get the sense it's all about obtaining a select few weapons and specific armor pieces for specific Guardians at specific parts of the game.

Raid is the only thing I haven't done - I just don't have the time! And if I did, to coordinate that time with others - there's just no way.

Bungie splits with Activision, keeps Destiny

Not too surprising since they said they were not happy with the sales on their last earnings call. Since it was a 10 year deal, I'm guessing that means Destiny 3 wasn't going to be ready in time before the contract was up.

Interesting this happened and this article popped up back on Jan 4th...

In 2019, The State Of Activision-Blizzard Is Not Strong

https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertc.../#b168d4f30398

There's some cracks going on throughout Activision-Blizzard right now on several fronts. There's been issues with Activision upper management pulling strings with Blizzard for awhile and really came to light last years BlizzCon. Frankly, "The Suits" have put their efforts & concerns about taking care of the sharholders who want more profit with less resources...hence a lot of cost-cutting at Blizzard for one. I hope this is for the best and maybe Bungie can open up and go back to making games for players instaed of all about making money for shareholders.

I wonder if this will change up Destiny 2's planned timeline leading up to Destiny 3.

Hopefully since they no longer have to honor the contract with Activation, they can skip the numbered sequel and keep building on D2.

i don’t want a D3 to happen until we have next gen consoles capable of running 60fps. Even then, I want them to carry everything over that we’ve accumulated.

It would be kinda cool if they just went back to calling it Destiny, and just lumped one and two together somehow. Maybe I'm alone, but looking back on it I think I enjoyed my time in the first Destiny more than Destiny 2.

this is an odd statement

seems like this would need to be qualified with what iteration of D1 vs D2
launch?
Y3 D1 vs launch D2?

I certainly don't believe you have touched Forsaken

Re: Destiny 2 - 9/8/17 (PS4,XB1,PC)

The last version of D1 I played was Taken King. I didn't play that last expansion. For D2 I played through everything that was included through the first two expansions, which pretty much sucked balls. I have heard good things about Forsaken, but with so many other games out I don't see myself going back to D2 for any future expansions since I've been away for so long now.

Just saying your original post needs some context given the fact you haven't touched Forsaken

and that is even before you saying you haven't even touched any D2 endgame content

I enjoyed Taken King more then Forsaken, maybe its because I was actively raiding/up at reset playing with others every day. ROI was the best place the game has ever been in though.

When I initially purchased the $100 version of D2, I played through everything it had to offer up to that point. I ran the raid once or twice with you guys and finished both expansions. That is where my judgment is coming from, since I'm not dumping any more time or money into it. I figured $100 is a pretty fair shake at seeing what they had to offer, and I don't think I got a great experience for what I paid for.

On the flip side, had I originally just ordered base D2 w/ GCU and the $10 reward zone certificate, I think I definitely would have gotten my money's worth since I did enjoy that part of the game.

New expansion coming in the fall, Shadowkeep. Livestream on Thursday and more during E3. This should excite some Daggers :)

If rumors of cross saves between console and pc are true, and if that means I can transfer character progress between platforms, then I'll be back on Destiny 2 in a heartbeat. I really want to pick it up on PC, but there's no way I'm starting over from scratch with a new character.

mattysemo247 06-05-19 12:16 PM

Re: Destiny 2 - 9/8/17 (PS4,XB1,PC)

Right now the rumors are XB1/PC/Google. It's going to suck if PS4 is excluded. But since Sony has the timed exclusive content, I won't be surprised if that is the case.

Re: Destiny 2 - 9/8/17 (PS4,XB1,PC)

Cross-platform would be cool. Have to be honest, I picked up Destiny 2 when it was a free PS4 game and I haven't tried it, yet.

For 6 .months or so, I really enjoyed playing Destiny with all of you, working as a team and getting to know more fellow DVDTalkers, but I just don't have the free time needed for grinding to the next level required for the next pieces of the storyline. I defeated Crota and that felt like a satisfying ending so I stopped after that.

When The Rise of Iron came out, I bought it along with all of you so I could jump into new content with you and I was looking forward to it. First time I tried to fire it up, it said I needed to be Level 40 and I was maybe Level 30, if that. I wasn't happy I just dropped $30 on a game I couldn't play unless I was "invested" enough and when Destiny 2 rolled around, well, I thought that will be more of the same.

I understand why there's a grind in a game like this. It was just too much for me. Same thing happened with Borderlands 2, I'm afraid. Great story, fun gameplay, lively to look at, but too much grinding, collecting, and random lootbox luck.

musick 06-05-19 01:45 PM

Re: Destiny 2 - 9/8/17 (PS4,XB1,PC)

if you don't like grinding/collecting, etc the game probably isn't for you long term like you say

fyi, those who own vanilla D2, apparently the first 2 DLCs (Curse Of Osiris and Warmind) are now free for you
CoO is pretty subpar, Warmind is decent but it is with Forsaken where the game took a major turn for the best

anyway for those who also didn't know, Bungie with the season pass, starting with Season of the Drifter (2nd season of 3) introduced power surge bounties
as long as your character is level 50 you can do simple bounties that will get you 640 power level gear for each armor/weapon slot bringing your character immediately up to 640 power (max power 700) ... 690 gear for the new season (Opulence) that started yesterday (max power 750)
a pretty good QoL change that let's lower level players level up quickly so as to not be left behind by new content upon release

Gooter 06-06-19 10:53 AM

Re: Destiny 2 - 9/8/17 (PS4,XB1,PC)

Can you repeat or complete past seasons (drifter, forge, etc)? Or once they are gone, they're gone meaning you can't get the gear, rewards or whatever goes along with each season.
Thanks
