Wow so should I cancel my COD pre order and get this game instead? I have BF1 and love the big open maps that game has. I lover Operations. Does BF2 have Operations?

Yea...how but I think this will be around a lot longer than the first even with what they are offering now much less the possible DLC packs coming....
And from what I've seen...at least on the Playstation site....anyone can go into the PS Store and DL the beta. I'm sure it's the same in the XBL store.

I dig that you can "purchase" upgrades or heroes using points you've earned during a match... kinda like kill streak rewards in CoD but in a cumulative manner. You don't get punished for dying.

Played a bit this weekend and came away impressed. Class systems were fun, graphics and sound were top notch as well. I had the most fun with Starfighter Assault; spent most of the time in that mode.
Some complaints:
-Spawn points seemed far away. Spent a lot of time running back to the action
-Squad system needs some work. Why not implement a similar system from Battlefield?
-Leveling up your classes based on random loot is weird
Overall, looking forward to the release.

Spawn is definitely something that needs to be fixed. It shouldn't take 15 seconds to get back into the action.

Yeah I'm not loving that spawn time either. I don't like waiting for other players to squad up, because 9 times out of 10 we separate immediately.
The biggest difference I saw and something I really appreciate is that it seems like it takes a lot longer to die in this one. You spend more time in the game and can more easily rack up streaks and points in this one.
I only got to play one hero this weekend, Rey. In previews she was described as being maybe one of the weaker choices, but I thought it was really fun. More than any hero from the first game.
I played a ton of this over the weekend, and can't wait to get it next month.

The spawn issue has to be intentional for some reason. It was an issue with Battlefront that, while they supposedly "tweaked" it, they never really fixed it. Interesting way they replaced the onscreen tokens with the points/buy system, not sure I like it. I tend to play objectives rather than seeking out a high kill count, so I won't accumulate the points as fast and may rarely be able to access heroes or some of the better ships.
Still hate the controls for space battles. Not sure why, but I never got the hang of them in the first game, and they still seem odd now.
Overall, though, I like the changes. Will certainly be picking this up.

The flight controls are wonky in that you completely steer with the right analog and the left is only used to spin, I guess. I can't tell you how often I'd end up upside down instead of turning left or right. I'm sure it just takes time getting used to it.
I do like the reward streak points... I could have unlocked Maul during one game but my son convinced me to unlock a trooper about 2000 points in
I'm more objective based as well and I'm sure there are game modes suited to that type of play. In CoD games I prefer capturing points rather than racking up kills -- I'm just not good enough at twitch gaming.

I just found a 'Battlefront' game at a Goodwill yesterday, heh. Never played anything from the series, doesn't seem like they'd be my thing...

I wanted to ask what some might have to say and thoughts about the Star Card & Crate system. I've been looking and reading opinions all over this area has the potential of being a "pay to win".....where those who are willing will have a distinct advantage in MP areas. There's still a lot of ifs & maybes being a Beta but I it's an area why some are concerned it could go that way.

Been reading that information as well. Ultimately, it looks like you can (making up numbers here) drop $20 and unlock 20 loot crates. These loot crates could have better weapons and better star cards. For example, star cards could give you a 40% damage boost in Starfighter Assault.
Definitely sounds like a form of pay to win; if not completely pay to win, it's a very slippery slope. I'm hoping there is some clarification prior to release.

Its may be like Halo 5. You'll get cards to use, log in bonus, etc. But you can always buy more.
I usually burn one after getting my ass kicked, and I then show up in a banshee

^^ I think you're correct. You'll get a daily crate (like Black Ops II) but you can always buy more. I think you can use credits you earn to buy specialized crates as well. I don't think this HAS to be pay to win but obviously your odds are better if you buy lots and lots of crates.

I'm torn on this. I had high hopes for the first Battlefront. It's what finally pushed me to get a PS4. But I was so disappointed. Felt like half a game and mechanics were weird. Lots and lots of immediate spawn deaths. I want to believe this will be good. I want to believe... I want...

I came away really impressed. It seems they addressed most of my concerns from the previous game. The only thing I'm not convinced of is a truly engaging progression system. There needs to be a better carrot dangled in front of me this time.
As far as the loot crates go, as long as you can buy them with in game currency as well as real $, it's not that big of a deal to me.

Hopefully I'll have a little time with the beta late tonight. It wasn't on my radar so I downloaded it on Monday but haven't had a chance with it at all. Was going to play last night, fell asleep at 8:30pm, woke up at 3:00am for an hour (thus, a bunch of DVDTalk posts in the wee hours). Hopefully tonight.
