Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

Wow, unless I messed up my searches, we haven't started a thread for this highly anticipated sequel.

The reviews are extremely good - currently running a 94 Metacritic score.

If you pre-order the game you can get the Limited Launch Edition with a nice-looking Steelbook at no extra charge.

There is also a collector's edition with a plush, soundtrack CD, and Japanese school messenger bag.

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

Thank you for posting this! I loved Persona 3 and 4. Add in the fact that all the reviews are absolutely glowing and I am super excited for this.

I hardly ever buy games new enough to still be at MSRP. This might be an exception. And if there's a sale where it drops under $50, I think I'd snap it up. These games give you a ton of gameplay hours, so I know I'd be getting my money's worth.

More than price, DLC and "Game of the Year" editions make me not buy games new anymore. But Atlus games don't do much of that, do they? There weren't any DLC for Persona 4, and Persona 3 just had that FES edition.

Duh, as an Amazon Prime member I get 20% of the MSRP of $59.99. I'm in the middle of Fallout 4, but I might bite. It'll probably be some time before the price drops lower than that.

I ordered this like 6 months ago, since I love Persona games, but great to see those reviews.

This is a PS4 thread, which I don't have, would never come here but interested. Aren't you tired of the joke already?

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced. Depending on how much time I put into Zelda this next week, I may be able to wrap that one up in time to jump straight into this one on Tuesday. Glad to see its getting good reviews.

I made sure to finish up Zelda this week. Still have some shrines to get but I've completed all I really care about. Can't wait for this one.

Pre-ordered this in steelbook form on Amazon. With $9 in points and 20% off as a PRIME member, shipping to me for $41 and change.

Chompin' at the bit to play this. I put 130 hours in P3 and 115+ hours in P4. I expect no less from this.

Metacritic score is currently at 94, making this the third highest rated PS4 game ever (and the highest rated non-remaster).

FWIW, the Steelbook picture I posted above was wrong. This is what it looks like :

It also comes with a translucent slipcover, which is nice

Anyone put time into this yet? It should be all downloaded on my PS4 but today is the wife's bday. I probably won't get a chance to try it out till tomorrow.

I was able to snag a Take Your Heart edition from a local Best Buy and will be picking it up today. Now I have to return the regular edition I ordered from Best Buy that should be delivered soon. Can't wait to check this game out.

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

I got mine late last week. I probably won't get to it for another month or so ... still finishing up Fallout 4. I'm not good at playing more than one game at a time. Though I'm at the point in Fallout 4 where I'm wanting to just power through the main quest, put the game down for a while, and come back after playing something else to finish up the DLC and side quests.

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

I cleared the first palace last night (taking my time with this one). It was longer than I remember the dungeons from 3 & 4 being. Not a fan of the Calling Card aspect which makes you start the clear process a few days before the deadline. Glad I didn't wait till the last day...

Only complaint, which I had with the older titles as well is that you can turn off the awful voices during combat. The word Persona becomes a trigger after a couple hours of playing.

About 6 hours in. Totally loving everything except the amount of time between save points. You really do have to commit to playing at least an hour per session with this one.

yah, the save point gaps are tough. especially, when you forget you didn't save and had just suspended instead, and then Power down instead of go into Rest mode... fml

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

I haven't had any issues with save points. While in a palace you can save in any safe room or just warp back to the entrance and save there. Outside of palaces, you can save whenever you want afaik.

Interesting that you pointed this out. Right after I read this I actually started the first palace and that save concern went out the window. It's just that the 7 hours before that only had about 6 save points haha.

Question, are you supposed to try to beat the palaces in one attempt or multiple? This is my first Persona game and I have no clue what I'm doing. I ran out of MP after about three save rooms in the first palace and left. But I have like 13 days til I "need" to beat it.

Re: Persona 5 (PS4) - 4/4/17

It doesn't really matter when you clear, provided it's before the deadline. One thing to note about this one, which I don't remember about the older titles though...the palaces have hard stop points where you have to leave and end the day. Even with unlimited MP, you wouldn't be able to clear in one game day.

Usually you would do what you've seen. Grind until you're out of MP, get to a save point, leave, and end the day. How you want to divide up going into the palace and using days to improve social links is up to you. Good rule of thumb would be to get to the point where you send the Calling Card early, if possible. Then you can spend time working on social links.

Thanks. One last bad question....maybe I missed it but what do you mean by "send the Calling Card"?
