Still trying to figure out how I want to buy this thing. Prices are the same for digital and physical so I'm almost tempted to just have the convenience of not finding the disc. Also not sure whether to get all the bonus content right off the bat or wait. I assume I'm going to play it all because I played it all in the original game. But a price drop is inevitable.

IGN gives it a 9. Looks real promising: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/10/...-of-war-review

7.5 from Polygon. 7.0 from Gamespot.
That's enough for me to wait for a big sale. I have enough on my plate for the time being.

Shadow of Mordor ended up being GOTY for most outlets in 2014. Granted, it didn't have a whole lot of competition since it was still early in the generation, but War doesn't seem like they added much since then. Just a larger map and loot boxes.

It looks like a lot more of the same with a few new elements/systems. Honestly, with the new AC coming out in a few weeks, if I were going to get one of these, it'd be that one. But I'm getting neither, so I guess it doesn't matter all that much...

Considering the sequels that venture too far beyond what made them popular (Mirror's Edge, Condemned, Crackdown) and let me down, I'm just fine with a refined experience with a new/bigger map. More of the same, when the original was GOTY material, is just fine by me. I don't need a more complex fighting mechanic or giant Shadow of the Colossus boss battles to enjoy a sequel.
For comparison: Polygon 9.5 and an 8/10 for Gamespot.

Pretty sure I'm in for day 1, either digitally or maybe using a Prime Now credit.

The game is getting torn apart in the Amazon review section. Currently 2.5/5 stars with people complaining about the micro transactions and loot boxes. Granted, most of the people leaving reviews probably haven't bought the game or don't care to, but you have to wonder if the developers will at least try to correct some of those concerns. Personally, I don't know why they chose to go in that direction for a single player game. Just seems greedy to me, especially since you already have four versions you are offering from $60 to $250.

I watched part of GiantBomb's quick look last night. The microtransactions and links to the online store are abundant. I think the uproar over this whole thing is a little much, but their implementation is super tacky.
