Re: Biggest video game regrets?

Figured mine out: Not buying a Sega Saturn when they were on clearance at the base exchange. It was relatively affordable and I really wanted Duke Nukem 3D and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Re: Biggest video game regrets?

Recent purchases like the wii u/vita don't count for me because as an adult the money spent is not that big of a deal. My biggest regret comes from being a sega fan boy as the system morphed over the years. This started in college...and I really did not have the money to do it..but I did.

Spent all my free money for the Sega CD. It has some good games but overall was a let down..

Then I spent all my free money on a 32x. What a piece of shit..

Then I spent all my money on the Sega Saturn..not horrible, but I would have been better with a ps1.

I had the money by the time the dreamcast came out and I loved the system, but again I chose wrong buying it.

My friends and brother always had the other systems, and during this time I would end up playing on them more than my own system.

But I do wish I had kept all my NES, SNES and Genesis games.

This is my answer too, but at least this stopped us from buying Saturns.

Having once been a member of the Atari Club, I owned Crazy Climber which I sold on eBay for around $700 and the silver label Gravitar for around $350. Now if I only could go back in time and tell my younger self to buy Quadrun.

I've bought and sold a lot of systems over the years, but I still regret selling the PSP and sorta the Dreamcast. There were so many unique titles for the Dreamcast that I never got around to playing and I see so many discs for the PSP at thrift stores these days, I could have an incredible library.

Re: Biggest video game regrets?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES. When I was a kid I paid for most of my games through many hours of extra chores. I had finally saved up enough for a new game, and the one I had in mind was TMNT. Went to Toys R Us with my mom, proudly plunked down my money, then got home and popped it in the NES... and was immediately filled with tremendous regret because the game is pretty awful.

Later, I sold all of my mint boxed NES games to the "Game Xchange" for a used Super Nintendo and a handful of used games. The clerk told me he couldn't offer any more money for the boxes and asked if I wanted to keep them, and I said no. Sigh...

I collect old games now, and it cost quite a bit to correct that particular mistake. But I've never rebought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Probably buying a 3DS - basically bought it only for Link Between Worlds, which was great, but I picked up all the main Nintendo games like Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Ocarina of Time, and realized they're just not doing it for me and have hardly touched them.

Re: Biggest video game regrets?

I think my biggest regret when it comes to gaming is not keeping all of the original boxes and manuals for my NES/SNES games. I'd be rich as heck now. I mean, I have some of them but I just think about all that I threw out and it makes me kinda sad.

That and giving back my "gift" of Dracula X for Turbo Duo. I had a friend who gave me a gift (told me it was mine to keep) of Dracula X for Turbo Duo (complete, mint, j-card, etc). About a year, year and a half later the person asked for it back because they needed money. I felt bad (circumstances) and sent it back to them. That person never talked to me again after they received it. I should have told them where to go and how to get there in retrospect.

That's about it really.

That's been a big perk about being an adult gamer, being a little more frivolous with gaming purchases. I'm not hell bent about getting every last bit out of every game, because I have a shit ton more games now and can easily move from one to the next. I don't really sell many games now either. I just have a few huge Rubbermaid bins that I toss them into once I'm done. I figured it would be fun for my kids to rummage through them once they are older.

Re: Biggest video game regrets?

All related to getting rid of stuff. Though i don't replay old games often, I really like knowing they're there, and being able to. Plus resale value for most games, unless you buy then sell really quickly, is pennies on the dollar.

Small regret: Somehow losing/throwing away my Atari Age and Sega Visions magazines.

Medium regret: Selling my Saturn and all its games for way too little. (maybe $100). Needed cash instantly though.

Biggest regret: Easily, this:

I don't buy as many games as I used to (although somehow I collected a ton of 360 games), and I usually wait till a sale/price drop - but I sell/trade a whole lot fewer too. (Although I did trade a lot on Goozex...)

The only console I bought at launch was the Sega 32x. That showed me to buy at launch.

I just hooked up the Sega Gen/CD/32x monstrosity at my fiancee's place. Looking forward to diving back into those, and playing with my son, and, ideally, her a little bit. Tested the system with KEIO Flying Squadron yesterday.
