And... already modified to allow other ROMs?

https://www.polygon.com/2018/9/19/17...mulator-hacked

Nintendo Switch Online has been hacked within hours of its release, and players have already figured out how to play their own ROMs as well as the 20 NES games that come with the service. The process through which they’re doing so is reportedly easy enough that most fans will be able to replicate it, if given instructions.

And since it's tied to the online service, easily banned from the service once detected. Unless you can use the emulator offline or something.

So, is it only Nintendo games that have online play walled off? My son just showed me Fortnite still plays fine without the online service.

Nintendo made an exception for Fortnite:
https://www.polygon.com/2018/9/14/17...-switch-online

They may make exceptions for other games. Xbox One doesn't require Xbox Live Gold to play any of the F2P games online. Presumably these games are pulling in enough money from microtransactions to justify the ongoing cost of free online multiplayer.

Xbox One requires XBox Live Gold to play Fortnite, despite it being F2P. They are the only ones doing this.

Interesting. I wonder if it has to do with Fortnite originally being a paid early access title (the "Save the World" part of it now) on XB1 before the "Battle Royale" version was made. Although PS4 also had the original version, so they must've switch to "free multiplayer" after Battle Royale was added.

Golf Story goes up for pre-order from Limited Run Games tomorrow. More interesting though is they’re doing an NES cartridge for the game within the game, Galf. I might actually be more inclined to grab that as I already own Golf Story digitally and don’t necessarily feel the need to double dip.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Any idea if the 6.0 firmware update still bricks the Switch when using a 3rd party dock? Specifically for the Nyko dock. I tried looking all over the place and can't find an answer. I'm thinking it is the same

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I was excited for a second when Nintendo sent me an email advertising 30% off select digital games because it's my birthday month.

Alas, just a few 3DS and Wii U (wtf!) games

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I got the birthday email yesterday too but yeah nothing I want.

Oh well, I have three Switch games coming this week (Mega Man 11, Super Mario Party, and my copy of Night Trap shipped from Limited Run) as well as my back catalog anyways.

Report: New Nintendo Switch Model Coming In 2019

https://kotaku.com/report-new-ninten...019-1829513370

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo will be introducing a new version of its popular Switch console next year.

The report says that the move comes as Nintendo hopes to boost sales momentum of the Switch, which has dropped off since its meteoric launch. It’s claimed that this new model would “likely share many features with the current version and be compatible with existing Switch game software.”

It also says that Nintendo “is still debating what new hardware and software features to include in the upgrade”, with one option on the table being an upgraded screen, closer to those found in “more recent smartphone LCDs”, which would “make it brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient”.
I don't have a Wall Street Journal login to look at their actual article.

oh, hmm. I preordered the Eevee Switch Bundle to give to my younger daughter for Christmas at the crazy $400 price. I would hate to have to wait another year to get her the Switch though.

Why so much?

About the new Switch, I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo did something to make the new one uncompilable with existing Switch accessories.

Figures I just upgraded to a 400 GB card for mine. Can you transfer the micro SD card to a new Switch with everything intact or is it like PS4 where you have to reformat?

Negative; this doesn't work at all. The card is tied to the console once it's set up. You would have to re-format to use it on another Switch. Doesn't even hold game saves.

Yeesh, well if the new model is just a Switch-Lite and not an upgrade power wise (like a Switch Pro or something) then I won't bother upgrading anyway.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

We've all been conditioned to expect Slim consoles by now.. if this does come along next year and they get it right, this is when I join the Switch company.
