I glanced at the period of July to December for game release this year and the sheer number of big release games, remasters and collections coming out, especially in the months of October and November, seems off the scale compared to usual. I jotted down the main titles that hit me, but there are tonnes more download only titles, DLC and probably a lot of games on platforms i am not familiar with that i am missing.

Usually i end up grabbing maybe two or three games in the lead up to Christmas, but this year there is literally maybe 20 games that i want. Its gonna be an expensive end to the year.

So has there ever been a lead up to Christmas with as many big games being released (re-released)?

Seems pretty average to me, just more re-releases and re-packaged games than ever.

That is odd... That most of these aren't being delayed until March. But for half a year that doesn't seem too much considering the series that have annual installments (Destiny, COD, Battlefield, sports games, etc).

Same here - removing the remaster collections or rereleases/GOTY editions, it's pretty typical.

That article underlines what i thought, and providing the list of big games literally coming out week after week until Christmas cements it for me. In most years they seem to have maybe half a dozen top tier games released at the back end of November, but this year its week after week of releases. Good in a way as you get a little time between game releases to play them. If i ever buy more than one game on a single occasion it usually leads to only one game being given significant attention whilst the other gets a short burst of play before being put on a shelf to be dusted off 12 months later.

In years long past I would be paying attention to what comes out in October because of the then-annual TRU b2g1f deal. But now with insane Black Friday deals and Gamerclub and Prime, I can usually wait.

Did that Deus Ex game just not do well? I was surprised it was on sale already.

I think the better question is does it knock February out as the best gaming month ever?

Would be nice if Best Buy ran a buy 2 get 1 free in October.

Both. Comes out late November now.

Persona 5 is February.

If you are going to eventually get it, you should really preorder it. The preorder comes with 10 bonus songs. After the release date, the game comes with none. $30 for an expansion and 10 songs seems like an okay deal. $30 for the expansion alone -- not so much. Even if the expansion eventually goes on sale for 50% off in a year or so, you still are only about at the same level of value as buying it with a preorder for $30.
