Re: Bioshock Collection (PS4, XB1, PC) - 9/13/16
So, I want to talk a little about Bioshock here. I'm REALLY late to the game. Just got the collection on sale the other day, and started getting into the first bioshock. It just doesn't seem to be grabbing me the way it has other people.
I played and loved System Shock & System Shock 2 back in the day, but this really just feels like a "me too" game with a new coat of paint. I'm playing on easy, because I suck, but I'm still having issues. The maps seem WAY too convoluted to me, I can never figure out where I'm going. The little arrow that's supposed to tell me where to go doesn't seem to work all the time. I'm completely out of ammo, and stuck in resurrection tube with a Big Daddy right outside. At first I loved the art-deco design, but now I'm just over it.
Think I'm just going to give up, and move on to the next, but is Bioshock 2 more of the same? Should I just skip to Infinite and give that a chance? Or is this line of games just not for me?

If you're at the first big daddy it's ok to skip him because you're underpowered at that point in the game. Once you get more skills you'll be fine.

Yeah, the Big Daddies are completely optional if I remember correctly. You only have to attack them if you want to save the Little Sisters. But it's also okay to skip them for now, level up, and tackle them later as he mentioned above.

That being said, I wouldn't advise skipping the first. Despite a weaker story, 2 does carry one from the first.

This was one of my favorite games....at the time of it's release there was nothing like it. The story, design, audio and playstyle was all fantastic. When it came out it really pushed the bar up on what the 360 could do. I was awe struck with lighting, blend of colors with shadows and remember seeing the water as real as it could be.....it was eerie yet a sight to behold. never did Infinite but wish I did....

I finally got around to messing with the Playstation VR over the weekend, and one of the first games that came to mind that I'd want to see in VR would be Bioshock. The atmosphere would be incredible in VR. If that tech ever does succeed on a higher level, I'd totally be in for a remake.

I'm starting to wonder if I just don't have the attention span for these games
I am liking Infinite, it's definitely easier, I haven't died yet. I like the story, hasn't been frustrating, never run out of ammo ... but ... just yesterday after playing a bit, I started to wonder if it was almost over. Took a peek at a walkthrough, and saw I'm barely a 1/3 through!
One thing I find frustrating, though, (on the PS4), a lot of the UI elements are a lot smaller than they should be. Especially compared to how they look in the original Bioshock. Things like the little pop up that shows you how much money you have when you collect coins ... I can barely read that from my couch. It's almost like they forgot to scale up the UI elements when they up-rezzed the game.

OMG, I actually won Bioshock Infinite! that's the first game I beat in over a year! Woo hoo!
It was fun, but I really disliked that final battle on the gunship, and I don't think I really understood what was going on. Definitely was enough "bioshock" for me though, I don't feel the need to play the DLC or try the others again.

Yeah, I thought Burial at Sea was fantastic but then again... if you didn't care for the Bioshock "world" and story, you might not care.

I’m about to finish 1 for the first time. Really liking this game. Not sure why I stopped so long ago. The fluidity of motion is great. It gets tough at end and ammo getting, making, buying is scarce. But fun and plays so well.
Will playing 2 be repetitive if I play right after? I usually like variety, but this first is real enjoyable. Already played and beat infinite...

I stopped because of Pipe Dream. I got tired of goddamn pipe dream.
Glad I finished it though.
