Same, this looks like they went the more Bethesda/Elder Scrolls route, and as equally dull. Hopefully wrong.

Only without any of those games' scope or attention to detail.

Right now the only things looking to get for sure are Gears and Sea of Thieves as soon as they come out due to their multi-player. Recore I'm excited for but since that appears to be strictly single player I can wait awhile for that one.

In terms of Zelda, I'm excited about it BUT since we still have no idea about the new system that is purely wait and see for me. Hard to fathom the newest Nintendo system in my collection is the Gamecube. I was on their bandwagon forever and then they lost me when the Wii came out.

E3 felt like a bust for games coming out this year. The only ones I have on my list are The Last Guardian and Forza Horizon 3. We Happy Few looks really good too, but I might wait until that hits PS4.

I can't believe the negative reactions to Zelda. It looks amazing to me. I loved the Witcher too, but this is a completely different thing.

FWIW, I also wasn't a fan of Wind Waker because there was too much slow/dull overworld and not enough dungeon goodness.

The pacing was just right on Zelda: TOoT, they haven't come close to hitting that same balance since imho.

I loved that game and seem to remember it was surprisingly overlooked; I think it came out around the same time as a Gears game so people were more focused on that I guess.

Felt like a bust altogether for me. I was surprised to see many people praising it.

 It looks like most of Nintendo's output the last 5 years... half-assed. First HD Zelda game and we're going back to cel shaded? Not to mention it looks pretty barren. This is the game that's launching a system?

Also, they're coming off back-to-back stinkers for me. Wind Waker was the last console Zelda I enjoyed, let alone finished.

Probably a dozen or so games I want, so a win for me. Far more than what 2015 E3 gave us.

I don't think that's right as they are both made by Epic. They wouldn't do that to themselves. But you're on the right track, something probably came out close... but I'm not seeing it from this list.

This would've been a great E3 if Rockstar showed up to reveal the new Red Dead game. Did they even come this year?

What's wrong with cel-shading? I thought it looked great in Wind Waker and here as well. I also liked how they just drop you in. I don't know, I guess different strokes. It didn't look half finished to me.

I'll take the Zelda cel-shaded universe look over anything I've seen in the Witcher series.

Booo!

Witcher 3 was easily the most gorgeous game I've ever played, especially the last expansion.

Nothing wrong with cel shading. It's what you use when you can't compete with the real consoles. ;) Kidding of course.

But seriously, we've had cel shaded Zelda. What we haven't had is a drop dead gorgeous HD Zelda. There are parts of this trailer that make it look like a Gamecube or Wii game. Consoles they'll gimmick the shit out of but games? Nintendo is too averse to trying something different with their IPs.

I've said it numerous times but how about give me a Legend of Zelda game where I actually play as the title character? Maybe not even go all in but do it like Halo 2 where there are two stories going on at the same time and have Zelda & Link split time.

Easily one of my favorite games...and still have it on the 360. I liked the arcade feel of wanting to keep trying different combos for a higher score and seeing body parts, blood and hearing crazy lines. It was quite entertaining and a good laugh.

If you're talking about graphic quality then ok but otherwise it's another drab world like any other 3rd person open world fantasy game. I liked the world of Dragon Age Inquisition far more then anything I saw in the 10 or so hours I put into Witcher 3.

Drab? Did we play the same game? And no, while the graphic quality's more than fine, I'm talking about the art direction. It's a beautiful wold they created, more beautiful than any other game I've seen yet. Uncharted 4 comes close and it has better "graphics", but W3 has better artistic achievements.

But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

Internet rumors suggested it was cancelled because of the Orlando tragedy. Trailer is suppose to show a mass shooting in the saloon.

The game was cancelled or the E3 reveal was cancelled?

So what was this "Treehouse" thing? I assume it's more informal than an actual press conference?

As good a thread as any to post this in. E3 2023 has been cancelled. Wonder if we'll ever get one again.

Good question...but last two years with these shows has not been good and frankly to me, not good for the industry and consumers. These were always a highlight each year for pretty much all in the industry; games, electronics, small to big to come together and reveal the latest and what's coming....now it seems everyone wants to do their own show, own reveal which in a way is sad because it's all scattered, held different times, dates and focused on just their stuff.....and if anything I think not having these hurts the indies and Small Devs the most as they won't get the exposure as they once did.....just sad....

Even though it was destined to fail, it still stings. I miss having that hyperconcentrated few days of a relentless onslaught of gaming news, which, ironically, is why E3 no longer justifies its existence. The "retail trade show" aspect is a lot less relevant with gaming retail being a far cry from what it was. If developers/publishers want to have facetime with journalists, it's probably cheaper just to fly them out on the devs/pubs' own timetable. And as far as reaching gamers, nearly all of whom were just streaming these events on YouTube or whatever anyway, these companies can deliver a more polished, more controlled experience on their own and again on their own timetable...one where they don't run the risk of being drowned out by all the other conferences and reveals going on at the exact same time.

The slow death of E3 and the rise of the generally unsatisfying events that have taken their place have diminished my AAA hype and made me more excited about smaller showcases like Wholesome Direct. Summer Games Fest and The Game Awards inevitably wind up disappointing me, more because of the unrealistic expectations I set rather than anything wrong with the showcases themselves.

Honestly, I think it's the opposite: that indies and small devs have much more of an opportunity to have the spotlight shone their way with the new normal, rather than being overshadowed by full CG trailers of a bunch of games that aren't coming out for another 4 years. There are tons of indie-centric showcases, Nintendo and Sony have dedicated or near-dedicated events for these sorts of games, and there are other events (PAX in particular) where they can get more of a focus.
