Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)
I went from Doom to Battlefield to Titanfall in under 2 months, and I'm ready to switch it up from the FPS genre for a while. There was a nice deal on HItman yesterday so I picked it up figuring it might be my next game, but this one has me intrigued.
Is this game such a drastic departure from the previous FF games that a newcomer to the series could probably pick this one up and not feel too lost? It sounds like a lot has changed in this game, but there always seems to be a huge barrier to entry that's kept me away from FF in the past.

I liked XIII a lot, though I am not a diehard FF guy like other people. The only other one I put any real time into was VII.

The last FF I liked was 12. Never cared for 13 or it's sequels. Never played 14 since I'm not a fan of MMO's. This one looks like I'll have a good time with

The combat system is Really good. Probably the best part.
I'm doing a lot of bounty hunts. It seems like they pulled that right from 12 which was my favorite parts of that game

It's at 84 on Metacritic right now. The reviews have me looking forward to it though, my PS4 copy is arriving today.

It's getting roughly the same scores as FF XIII, thankfully the player response has been much better.

I finally got a chance to watch that Conan video and I'm sure Square can't be too happy with how that went. I know it's supposed to be funny, but it really put the game in a bad light. I bailed early into FF XIII, so this one is off my radar. Just don't have the time anymore.

I'm a final fantasy fan so I'll pick this up when it goes on sale but there hasn't been a single thing shown that looks even slightly interesting to me about this game.

I played it for a few hours yesterday. I gotta say, I was proven wrong. After the absolutely terrible Platinum demo I wasn't really looking forward to this game at all. The combat is so much better in the actual game, and I daresay even great. The story seems interesting (although a bit convoluted, of course). The graphics are gorgeous too (PS4 Pro), including HDR support.

I'm addicted to fishing. Almost 10 hours in and still in Chapter 1.

Well....it's different. That's for sure. It's definitely a Japanese developed game. No mechanic in it is original and each one has been done better by another title. But the way they are mashed together is pretty appealing. Traditionalists need not apply.

I've played a couple hours - so far it's just ok for me, if not a little boring running far distances on basic fetch quests that seem more accustomed to an MMO which I've never liked. I also hate the silly clothes and weird names, but I guess that's what you get with these games lately, especially since FF X. The first female you meet, Cindy, is eyerolling bad. Hoping it picks up a little.

Are there any plans for DLC down the road? They haven't before, but it's been 10 years, the gaming landscape has changed. If not, I'll probably pick this up pretty soon. If there will be, I'll wait for the eventual all-in-one package.

Co-op multiplayer DLC will be available for the game after its November 29th release. The mode is a part of FFXV’s season pass, announced in August, which will cost $25 and offer six DLC packs total. The three other DLC packs teased today will make party members Gladio, Ignis and Prompto playable. The online co-op mode, released after each characters’ episode, will allow up to four players to battle as Gladio, Ignis, Prompto or Noctis.
There Are (At Least) Six DLC Packs Planned For Final Fantasy XV

DLC 4: Episode Ignis (Working Title)
DLC 5: Episode Prompto (Working Title)
DLC 6: Expansion Pack (Working Title)

Level 13 with 15 hours logged. I'm only on Chapter 2 I'm way overleveled for the main quest since I'm doing all the Hunts and side quests. The story is okay but the thing that's hooking me is the combat system. This is right up there with X's Battle system.

I agree with what flash said about the demo. I hated the demo. This is way better. Like a different game.
And stan, take the characters with a grain of salt. It's Japan lol. My wife commented on the Cindy character, too. Unintentional comedy at its best.

Heard that the 2nd half of the game is far more like a classic FF game than the first half.
