Nintendo cuts prices on favorites with Nintendo Selects line.

Nintendo will launch a line of Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games at reduced prices, the company announced. Starting March 11, a number of popular releases will be rebranded as Nintendo Selects and cost $19.99 at retail, according to a press release.

Games available as part of the program's first wave include Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Nintendo games typically maintain their value years after launch, with many stores continuing to sell titles at full price. Games with more limited prints, like Ocarina of Time 3D, can often fetch even higher prices post-release.

For the full line-up of the games getting a price cut next month, see the list below.
◾Super Mario Galaxy 2
◾Super Mario 3D World
◾The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
◾Animal Crossing: City Folk
◾Donkey Kong Country Returns
◾Super Mario All-Stars
◾Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
◾Pikmin 3
◾NES Remix Pack
◾Yoshi's New Island
◾Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
◾Mario Party: Island Tour

I remember Ocarina of Time prices skyrocketing a few months ago when it went out of print too. I might pick that up, haven't touched my 3DS in a long long time.

I didn't realize they were still producing new copies of Wii games. Or are these from existing stock?

Nintendo still produces new copies of their popular Wii games but besides that their have still been over 10 new Wii titles released this year.

Most (if not all) of these are up for preorder on Amazon. $15.99 if you are a Prime member.

Nice, didn't even think about the Amazon Prime discount. Ordering Ocarina.

Thanks, OP. Just pre-ordered Super Mario All-Stars (Wii) for $16 + tax.

Note all, the current wave of titles are releasing in two days so that's your preorder window if you want the extra Amazon discount. Here's the original list again, broken out by platform, and including what the price was BEFORE the "Selects" version became available:

Wii U:
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze ($30)
NES Remix Pack ($26)
Pikmin 3 ($88)
Super Mario 3D World ($65)

Wii:
Animal Crossing: City Folk ($39)
Donkey Kong Country Returns ($45)
Super Mario All-Stars (N/A, 3rd party sellers only)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 ($25)

3DS:
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D ($38)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D ($50)
Mario Party: Island Tour ($28)
Yoshi's New Island ($40)

I don't own a 3DS... my handheld is a plain DS Lite. But I've got a Wii U and a bunch of legacy Wii titles, so I need to check whether I've got Super Mario Galaxy 2 already. Super Mario 3D World looks like a pick-up, but I don't know much about Pikmin 3 (other than the $88 pre-sale price) to know whether it's worth grabbing.

You have up to two weeks after release to qualify for the 20% discount. So no need to preorder.

I was able to dump my sealed copy of Pikmin 3 recently for $60, so I'm looking forward to getting it again for $16.

Good deal.

I went ahead and ordered tonight to have them by the weekend. I picked up Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (because we only have SMG1 at home), plus Super Mario 3D World (a bargain!) and Pikmin 3 (based on the glowing reviews I've read online).

How's Pikmin 3? I've never played something similar to it. I'm only interested in the solo adventure mode.

The tight time limit per day took some getting used to for me, and some of the texture work is a generation or two behind where it oughtta be, but otherwise, I loved the heck out of Pikmin 3. Definitely worth picking up, especially at this price.

What's the situation with the 20% off? I see the alert for Pikmin 3, but when I add it to the cart, it's still $19.99 plus shipping.

I see it's not sold by Amazon, assuming that's the reason why.

Looks like it. I pre-ordered Pikmin 3 directly from Amazon on Tuesday as a gift, and I did get the 20% off.

. . .

Also, Eurogamer reports that the following are getting budget releases as Nintendo Selects in Europe, and presumably the U.S. will follow suit:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
  • New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U
  • Wii Party U
  • Lego City Undercover

The Scalpers are probably trying to buy up all of Amazon's lot so they can get back to their regularly scheduled programming of scalping.

Damn. Best Buy it is then, thanks guys. Adam, that's good news with the additional titles. Now I wish I hadn't gotten Tropical Freeze months ago and barely played it, I could have just bought it today.
