Tips for new players:
  • Unless you're into spending money, don't ever buy data packs (except the first Chromium--it guarantees you a character; you buy it with crystals).
  • Once in a great while you'll get a character from a daily pack, or shards, but 45% of the characters you get will be from the various stores in the game. You can only see 1-2 when you start (Cantina and Squad Arena), but eventually you'll see another 3 or so, and they'll keep you busy grabbing character shards. The other 45% of the characters you get will be from doing hard battles...one shard at a time.
  • At the start, you really just need to keep plugging away at what you know to do. The game is great at opening up new areas when you're about ready for them. Don't even be that concerned about which characters are the "right ones." For instance, you'll probably continue to use Clone Wars Chewbacca for a while...but you'll likely abandon him by level 60 or so in favor of other characters.
  • I do highly recommend doing nothing in the Cantina except getting GS shards (Battle 1-A). Just do it over and over again until he's 7*. I camped there until he was done and then started doing more cantina battles. You'll use him way into the end game. Do one Cantina refresh every day (100 crystals).
  • In the Squad Arena (PvP), ST Han and Leia are both great choices. Again, I'd just keep farming them until they were maxed, then move on.
  • Other than that, keep doing the Light and Dark side battles. (Refresh twice each day (50 crystals each)). Right now you can just try to get through the levels, but eventually you'll want each one three stars because you'll go back to them countless times to get specific character shards so you can get a character, or to get equipment parts to make them stronger. By the way, equipment (those green pluses) make a HUGE difference--more than anything!
  • Be sure to get through your Dailies every day. That maxes your growth.
  • It's a bit frustrating early on because you want to get a bunch of characters, but if you really focus on building a strong team, they'll open the game for you.
  • Don't hesitate to use ALL your energy every single day. And if you fight a battle a second time, use a SIM if you have it. I was so concerned early on with burning through my credits and SIMs that I hoarded them. No need to do that. They all refill the following day, and by using them you grow faster.
  • These are generally considered some of the best characters in each store, in order of general preference. If you're not sure who to get, get them in this order. But don't let the idea of getting the "best" characters rule your gameplay. It's fun to play with whoever you want and sometimes unique combinations do surprisingly well:

    Guild Shipments: Rey, Ewok Elder
Arena Shipments: ST Han, Princess Leia, Admiral Ackbar
Galactic War Shipments: Luminara, Captain Phasma, Teebo, Poggle the Lesser, IG-86 (Note: Luminara is best up to about level 75, then Phasma seems to shine more. Ultimately, you'll want both.)
Cantina Shipments: Qui-Gon Jinn, Daka, Fives, Ahsoka
Cantina Battles: Geonosian Soldier, Barriss, Count Dooku, Old Ben, Royal Guard, Jedi Consular, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian

19k, do we have room in Fathers and Sons? I think we're still looking to get back to 50.
There's plenty of room. Pretty sure we are only at 39 members. We could definitely use the help if anyone here is still interested in the game and looking for a guild. I'm not an officer so I can't send out invites, but I don't see them turning anybody away at this point. Especially anyone with a halfway decent roster.

Yeah, a lot of that stuff like the Sith raid and the new message server are pretty recent.

I’m still on the Discord server and read your messages daily even though I haven’t logged in to the game with a few exceptions. I sometimes miss the building the toon and farming shards but in terms of gear and mods not at all. That gear 12 looks painful. Also I don’t miss the timing of TW, TB and the Arenas grind. Just when I have the urge to ask Mino to come back, I read your server and the urge goes away.

BTW, the one time I logged in to the game was during Credits Heist and pulled my first ever 10M and ended up with 15M. Unbelievable! Played the game constantly for 2 years and never got it. I stopped and I get it.

I never dealt with him as an officer but as a guild member, I thought he was fair personally.

David, on the other hand, even though heís full of knowledge, comes across more as to what he wants to do and whatís good for him. Personally, I never had an issue with him either but there was one time, we had a Raid start time that we agreed upon but because he wouldnít be able to hit it, he started earlier than the slotted time, which pissed off a lot of the members. Ahovv quit after that.

It does. I didnít feel the urge to turn on the game anymore. My last step will be to leave the guild server. Iím still debating that...

When I quit, I knew it was over-due. My son plays and he asks me who to use or why certain characters are tough to beat (he's 10)... I told him there's a lot of combinations / best practices / etc to be super successful at the game; hence why I quit it.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

It must be tough watching your kid go through that when you know just how exhausting it can be. I wonder if you can use this with him down the road to say, look, remember how I knew exactly what you went through in the Star Wars game? I've been there with this, too, and I'm here for you.

This game is like boat ownership... and the saying goes "The best two days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it"... and that was true in my case.

Yup. When we were in Line, there was discussion about other things besides the game. Talking about our hobbies like Feanor and Dorsey in their Sideshow figures or SW LEGO.

However, thereís less of that once we moved in Discord.

Was Discord any better than Line as a platform or did some knob just want to only have 1 app?

For the game itself is very useful as the guild can create rooms for different tasks and you can use bots to help plan and calculate strategies. With Territory Battles, Territory Wars and Raids, the level of planning and organization has increased tremendously.

Christ almighty. I can't even imagine MORE planning and organization than what we were doing 2(!) years ago.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

My new guild uses Discord and it's a lot better for planning if you use it right.

Glad you got some friendships out of it. I found Line tough to keep caught up on so I didn't get as deep into it as others, unfortunately. That may have helped make it easy to kick me, I don't know.

I'm still on the Casual elite Discord and I am also on my guilds discord. It's funny how different it is. The new guild is a little more organised but more relaxed at the same time. It's more understood how participation goes in the new guild and even though there always seems to be somebody on vacation people hit their 600.

I liked Line because with 1 thread we kept up on eveything that was going on,

I still think Discord is better for organisation and strategery.

No kidding! I remember once when Pinata made a post that gave some insight into everything he had to keep track of in our planning. It was C-R-A-Z-Y. Heck, I had a hard time keeping up playing the right things at the right times, let alone planning.

I still think it's one of the best games out there--I loved playing it--but it's way too addictive and demanding. Hence, I just go on forums and reminisce about the good ol' days in a galaxy far, far away.

There is way too much to do on a D2D basis in the game now and if you play MSF too it's pretty much a time sink.

I’m officially done with this game. Left the guild server. No regrets and mostly enjoyed my time.
