Wow, just pulled a four-star Old Daka from a bronzium card! They offered an immediate upgrade to Level 42, Gear Level IV for $15. What a rip-off. I'll upgrade her later just fine, thanks.

My Count Dooku is nearing 7 stars. Hope you're enjoying him in your battles!

As for Royal Guard, I was late to the game and farmed Dooku primarily from his hard nodes. Took months. Doing the same with RG now, he's at 4* and working on gear and level. It's a slog but I don't want to invest too much into him as he's a generic character and I feel like at any time the devs can realize how ridiculous it is for him to be so OP.

Right now I'm hording GW tokens. No one I want and too many others I do to waste credits on it.

Is there any better way to leveling up CD other than the Light and Dark side paths? Does he appear in the Cantina Battles at any point?

I finally got my 7* JC and am close with Lumi. I cracked the top 1000 in online battles just the other day (though I keep falling out)

Dooku is in the very last catina node at level 6. Must be level 69 to unlock.

Update notes.

GW may be getting a lot harder. Protection sits on top of health, so it gets eaten away first. Protection will not regenerate between battles if it has been depleted.
New Statistic Protection - "Protection" is a new statistic assigned to characters beginning at Gear Lvl VII. This statistic acts as an additional amount of effective health for a character in order to increase the time-to-kill at higher character levels.

Protection is visible on the character details' statistics screen

In combat, the Protection amount is deducted from first prior to Health when receiving damage.

If a Character has unlocked the Protection statistic, a portion of their Protection Meter will regenerate between Encounters/Galactic War Battles as long as it was not fully depleted.

Current Protection values display on Galactic War roster previews similar to how Health does.

Targeting a character in-battle shows the Protection bar, if present, within the upper right-hand area of the screen above the Health bar.

Here are the character Shards that will be available in the Stage 7 Cantina Battles starting this Thursday (4/14/2016).

7-A: Tusken Raider
7-B: Snowtrooper
7-C: Royal Guard
7-E: Ima-Gun Di
7-G: Jedi Knight Anakin

So now there is a viable way to get up RG. I will have to mix him in with my other farming. You guys all better get at least a 5* RG or your arena days are numbered.

So without a doubt Royal Guard has some excellent benefits - he has a stun, auto taunt, etc.

But looking over NS Initiate a little more, I think that she brings alot to the table as an alternative to RG with some nice benefits -

1) Her SPD is a little higher (and can be made pretty decent with a Ventress lead)
2) Her PD is significantly higher (+500)
3) Her health is 2nd highest in the game to RG and only 1k less HP)
4) Her STR is higher and her crit is much higher. Her basic is 3.5K and her crit is 6k+ at L80.
5) Has both a DOT and Immunity special (although her potency sucks)

Bottom line, once you finish the usual suspects in GW (Phasma, Lumi, PTL, and 86) there's a pretty good argument to get Initiate. She's not a very hard gear either. So rather than horde, I think I'm going with her next. Plus, I don't think anyone else in our group is going for her so it will benefit us too as a guild.

I'm halfway to 5 stars with her (31/65). The only place to get her shards is GW or Shipments so it's a slow process.

Here's how Advantage is going to work. TL/DR - if you don't have a maxed out Phasma, you are SOL.

Some quick notes on the new Advantage and associated reworks:
  • Advantage was indeed changed partially because it was just overwhelmingly effective once defense was a big factor in survivability--it felt silly putting all this effort into re-tuning the game to be less explosive if a high-burst character with old Advantage could crit and still 80~100% kill someone in one shot. The new Advantage was decided on because it had a big upside--while it's now harder to stack with other damage increases, it can act as an enabler for lots of on-crit mechanics. You can see this firsthand in several of the First Order character ability reworks, as they can now trigger many of their effects on a regular crit, independent of Advantage.
  • Advantage will cause AoE attacks to automatically crit every target hit.
  • Advantage will cause multi-hit moves (e.g. Rey's Flurry of Blows, Magmatrooper's Line of Fire) to crit each hit.
  • Advantage will not help extra attacks, as they are, well, separate attacks. (e.g. Dooku's Hindering Press)
  • Advantage is applied to the next damaging attack only. This means if you, say, use a healing/buffing ability that doesn't deal damage, it won't consume Advantage. It also won't be consumed if you're Stunned and lose your turn. This is why Advantage still specifies a duration--conceivably, if you stun-locked somebody long enough, Advantage would expire.
  • By the same token, Advantage will still be consumed if the target Evaded your attack--it only 'cares' whether you did a damaging attack, not whether that attack succeeded.
  • The only exceptions to 'next-attack-only' are Assists granted by Phasma's Fire at Will, which will refresh the Assisting ally's Advantage if they had it as soon as they finish the attack. This was a quality-of-life improvement to compensate for the fact that you don't get to decide who gets called for an Assist, which could cause you to expend Advantage undesirably, and that felt weird for the First Order leader.
  • The "once per enemy" thing on First Order TIE Pilot's Keen Eye means that you can't gain Advantage from a single enemy falling below 50%, healing above 50%, and falling below it again; in general, this means that in PvP and Galactic War, Keen Eye will "only" grant Advantage 5 times per battle. "Only".
  • First Order TIE Pilot's triple attack bug is actually definitely finally fixed as part of the reworks. (Probably.)

So, carrying this out, AOE characters will be very, very, very valuable in the new meta. 88 especially.

If you have a team like this:

Phasma (L)
88
Sid
Ventress
Kylo

You will be rocking the damn casbah. Basically, you just have to play possum until Phasma calls Victory March. Then 88 uses Rapid Fire and crits everyone. Sid uses DB and crits everyone. People are probably dead by this point. Kylo goes and kills everyone. Ventress probably doesn't even have to but she will.

Oh, and if Kylo gets called as FO, he gets crit and doesn't waste his advantage either.

Makes me really wish I farmed him harder.

Either way, battles are over by round 2.

5*->7* Kylo was my next Cantina farm anyway after finishing Dooku this weekend (76/100).

I can switch from STHan in Arena to 88 (273 to 7* or 3.5 weeks at my current daily haul). Ventress is only 4*, but since I have to choose and your post puts more weight on 88, I don't have a problem with that.

Hitting level 74 opened up Stage 8 LS battles for me. I breezed through them getting 3* each time with my Jedi wrecking crew. I did lose a borrowed Eeth once, but it was on auto. Can't imagine the 4 hard levels will be that difficult, but the first one is a level 78, gear 11 or 12 Maul so I could be way off base.

The RNG in this game.

I needed 2 shards to complete Daka today. I went 1/3.

Then I went 0/3 and 3/3 for Dooku shards.

Then I opened 3 bronziums in a row and hit 1 Poggle shard, 7 IG-86 shards, and 1 Plo Koon shard.

Got the daily activity for opening a bronzium which put me at 250 for another. Got 700 credits.

A roller coaster but, ultimately, disappointment.

Edit: Followed by an IG-100 shard from the 5th bronzium. I guess I can't complain. I'd much rather have these shards than an 800th piece of useless gear.

Man, I'd be thrilled with shards. At this point, it seems like all I get is useless gear and 400 credits...both pretty much worthless

They are pushing the update out in stages now.

BTW, all you IOS complainers, there is now an IOS only Ewok event that sounds 10x better than the shit droid one.

Seriously, never complain against iOS users. You will be getting Chirpa, Elder, and Scout shards. All the crap we got was easily farmable. Plus you got Lando.

I don't have any plans to run ewoks but this event is much better.
