should I buy a regular Wii?
I have 6 year old triplets who are pretty video game naive up until this point, perhaps played a little on our iPads, Roku 3, or Kindle Fire's.
I'd like to get them some motion type games, and am wondering if it was worth buying a used original Wii, or just going all out and getting a PS4 or XB1 with the Kinect?
I just want them to play some sports games like bowling, etc... some real nonviolent kiddie games but something that gets them up off the couch.
thoughts?

Honestly, the iPads are GREAT for that age group. They may enjoy that enough.
That said, I'd definitely get a Wii over a PS4 or XB1 if it's just for them. There aren't a "lot" of games on those platforms for kids yet...Wii takes the cake there. Plus it's supercheap now, so not much of an investment, and they can abuse it, etc, without concern. Plus, it has a ton of games they can ALL play at once.

Nintendo doesn't manufacture new Wii systems anymore, but they manufacture new accessories for the Wii since most also work on the Wii U.

Pretty sure I've seen the red/black dumbed down Wii lingering around in multiple stores recently.
That being said, buying 3 iPads(plus good cases/screen protectors for that age) will be quite costly. I'd look for the Wii and if you can't find one, go with the WiiU, it's 100% backwards compatible.

I personally found the Wii to be a waste of money. Just never got into the system much and a lot of it has to do with the fucking Wiimote. Never liked it as a controller and wish Nintendo would quit with the gimmicky shit and just release a back to basics console only with some updates to actually be on par or close to current gen consoles. Kids might like it more and its probably fairly cheap now but I guess personally I was never happy with my purchase. The main thing I use it for is a virtual console for older games.

A wii is worth it alone for how easy it is to mod the hell out of it. Although I don't think modding will work on the red Wii so you'll want to get the older version.

This. Modding it to store the games on a hard drive instead of the kids handling discs is great. It's also really easy.

My sons have played their Wii maybe three times. My old xbox 360 still gets considerable more use.

My son used the Wii a lot, while the 360 has largely languished. IMO the Mario (and similar) games that Nintendo specializes in are perfect for that age group (6-10).
