So I'm trying to get my partner more into playing PS4 with me, and have had good success with Diablo and a couple other co-op games. I figured we should try a FPS, and kind of hit a brick wall.

I bought us Borderlands Collection, and right away, it's just too darn hard. Neither of us are good at using the controller to aim (at least I've done it with a mouse + keyboard before, he's a virgin to it).

Borderlands 2 was frustrating because right out of the gate, there are monsters that jump right at you, and behind you, and you lose track of them, and they're killing you, and you run out of ammo, etc.. My partner became frustrated VERY quickly and quit.

But I don't want to give up on FPS yet ... is there another game out there that at least has an EASY mode for very first timers?

i was gonna suggest Borderlands, but oh well...

maybe Wolfenstein: A New Order...

Pretty sure Wolfenstein: The New Order is single-player only. No co-op.

I have no suggestions for the OP, but I'm curious about this as well, so I hope there are some good recommendations.

I'm not sure that there's very many other co-op shooters out there yet, at least for the current generation. Maybe one of the other game modes in Call of Duty(?), but that probably won't be any easier.

Split screen co-op shooters are rare these days, even the game that championed it the most (Halo) is ditching it unfortunately.

My suggestion is to start with stuff like Dead Nation or one of the other co-op games for PS Arcade. Dead Nation is a really fun game. It's a shooter, but not first person.

Sorry to hear your frustrations...but don't let it get you down...especially on Borderlands; the game just rules in co-op. Are playing couch, lan or online?

Some of us play Diablo still though not in-a-while...with 3-4 in it is fun. We're playing Dying Light and hands down one of the best co-op game I've played in a long time. Normally it's just two of us but we have played with 3-4. But like Borderlands Handsome Collection (we have it also), it might be a challenge at first since you pretty much have little to use no skills and weapons are crap. But that's the beauty of the game....going around in a group, looting, watching each others back and taking on more than you would in SP.

NOT a FPS, but this looks pretty cool, and there are so few couch co-op games for consoles these days :

well if everyone else is going to suggest non FPS's I'll throw out the recommendation of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare

Ok, well any other good co-op recommendations? We tried out that free lara croft game, and really are enjoying that. Geometry Wars .. well I like it solo, but I think it gets a bit too cluster-fucky co-op. We even tried 4 player co-op once, and that was a disaster (though we might have been too high for that to be playable)

I think Helldivers is co op, I haven't played it yet, but I think some here have said it's good. Have no idea if it is easy.

Word is that it's incredibly difficult.

Helldivers is much more difficult than borderlands. It is a top down shooter with friendly fire. I suppose it might work if you want to kill your teamates? I do however love Helldivers. I haven't played it in awhile though. It's best with a group of 4 online.

What about the COD series? I think they have local co-op ... are they easy enough? or at least an easy difficulty?
