Yeah, I don't really get it... backward compatibility is why Microsoft "won?" Or am I missing something? Seems like a lackluster E3 from all fronts, honestly.

I loved Tomb Raider, and if I were gaming more often then I'd probably be pulled in by the timed exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Cuphead looks awesome, and I'm sad I'll have to play it on PC because I'm generally uncomfortable playing games on my computer.
The Rare Replay collection really piqued my interest, but they're not remastered like Duck Tales was for PS3. I can stick to my roms and emulators that run flawlessly and probably provide even more of that nostalgia factor. Backward Compatibility is one of those things that you get really excited about and can't wait for and get pissed when companies exclude it from newer models, but when you do finally have it you never use it, so it isn't drawing me in either. All in all I thought Microsoft's conference was a big bummer.
Sony had Uncharted 4 which is the game I'm most looking forward to. I thought Horizon: Zero Dawn looked like my kind of game as well. Final Fantasy VII Remake was the biggest moment for me. That game stole my heart, and if it were a timed exclusive for XB1, then I would have got the system just to play it.
Last year's E3 really had me tempted to pick up a Wii U, but that feeling is gone now. I'd still love to play Yoshi's Woolly World and tinker with the Mario World Maker, but those aren't enough to justify the purchase.
Sony won it this year. I just wish their stuff was coming out sooner.

Yeah, game-wise, Sony certainly had the stronger showing, but MS had improved so much from the previous 2 years, that people were impressed enough, and the BC seemed to put them over the top.

Okay someone walk me through this since I missed their and Nintendo's conferences : Besides announcing Backwards Compatibility (two years later than would have been really useful, but admittedly cool and unexpected) and showing off a $150 Elite controller (
), what exactly did MS do or show to win E3?
), what exactly did MS do or show to win E3?Halo MCC did a surprising amount of harm toward my opinion of the Xbox One
that installation process made me a little gunshy toward buying multiplats for it even though I know it was an exception, and it reminded me that I don't actually like Halo.I'm definitely in for Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider and Rare's game collection though.

I don't think MS beat anyone, but just had a better presentation overall. I think the comment by the MS guy about BC was "you will now enjoy your old games, and you won't need to buy them again to enjoy them", was pretty much a knock at Sony for their stupid, overpriced subscription streaming game service for old games most people from last gen already own.
I guess it depends on the games you thought were interesting, but I'm not that impressed with Horizon (looked like Tomb Raider meets Turok). Even the bow icon looked like the one from the last Tomb Raider game, that can't be a coincidence. And I couldn't care less about The Last Guardian, I don't get the hype for that one, or a remake of a FF game that's almost 20 years old. No Man's Sky could be great or a complete disaster.
The BC helped with MS, but the fact that they had more exclusives shown coming out this year compared to Sony seems key. What are the big games coming out by year end from Sony? Before Dawn looks good. What else is there? I'll get the Uncharted Remaster since I never played that series. And now TV is okay with Sony and that VUE service, but bad when MS pushed TV integration? Okay.
MS has Halo, Fable, And Forza 6 at least. Yes, nothing really new, but are there for a lot of people this year. Curious how crossplay will turn out.
Having said all that, does it matter? Not really. I don't see PS4 losing out to XO, due to the dramatic sales difference between the two. Does BC matter enough to 360 owners? I guess we'll find out, but I'm guessing it will matter to some but not many.

While I get why people laugh at a $150 controller at a glance, given the amount people pay for other peripherals like headphones or fight sticks it seems in line. Seriously, fighting game fans pay over $200 for those things. Others pay a ton for driving wheels, joysticks, or plastic instruments too. It's not for me, and hell I think $60 is too much for a controller, but it seems like there's a market for it.
I've always held my belief that who "won" E3 is basically stupid and doesn't mean anything except to console warriors and video game bloggers. I thought Microsoft had a slightly better presentation; backwards compatibility may not be a big deal for everyone, but as I said earlier I think it's a nice feature especially for all those digital titles people have purchased and can still play so it's nice for me personally. The controller is nice for that hardcore Halo market. Games wise, I thought there was a good mix of titles whether it be something new (ReCore, Gears 4), something old (Rare Replay), something wild (Minecraft Hololens) and all the things we know that we'll actually get to play this year (Halo 5, Forza 6, Tomb Raider).
Sony was fine overall, I think the emphasis on timed exclusive content (the list posted earlier) and the whole Kickstarter advertisement lowered my excitement. The Last Guardian game play looked boring to me and never saw the hype about that, and while FF7 remake is great and exciting it seems to be years off. All these titles look awesome on paper as far as internet hype, but they all seem way down the line and look ripe for future E3 presentations. The only thing I really loved was Horizon and Uncharted 4, but that's just me.
Honestly, seems like anyone can phrase a sentence to diminish what a company showed. Turns out people have different opinions on what games excite them
Anyway, I think Bethesda had the most things I was interested in anyway

I wanted to see Bloodborne DLC personally, god I love that game
But now that I've spent some time with Witcher 3, which is good but the gameplay leaves a little something to be desired, all I'm really looking forward to this fall is Tomb Raider.
Halo 5 looks like more Halo, Forza 6 looks like more Forza, both of which are extremely long in the tooth. ReCore's art design looks generic but I have a lot of interest in the creators. HoloLens might be neat and as others have said, the controller and BC are at least interesting.
Sony's presentation was equally recycled, Horizon doesn't look like it's for me and the other titles are a long ways off.

I don't think they won anything, but they had a more interesting showing than Sony imho. Both were pretty weak on the game front.
Halo MCC did a surprising amount of harm toward my opinion of the Xbox One
that installation process made me a little gunshy toward buying multiplats for it even though I know it was an exception, and it reminded me that I don't actually like Halo.
I'm definitely in for Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider and Rare's game collection though.

My guess is that PS+ titles will start to be AAA games during the holiday season, like some console release titles. Stuff like Knack maybe? Is that crazy talk on my part?

Naw the only crazy talk is "AAA game" and "Knack" in the same line.

It isn't nearly as bad as the reviews implied, the gameplay / controls are quite good it's just repetitive and merciless as it progresses.

The PC Gaming event is pretty boring. Nothing really big, although Gears of War Ultimate and Killer Instinct are coming to PC.

I feel like they should be trolling console gamers. Like show a quick recap followed by "Aw, isn't that adorable" then throw up something breathtaking.
But it's co-sponsored by Xbox.

Corvin's musings on E3 2015
Haven't replied much. Still taking it all in. So far:
Sony:
Microsoft:
The rest... more Forza, Gears, Fable... *yawn* More new IP MS(Recore and SoT is a good start). Don't care about EA Sports, or Fallout. Never been into the Clancy games. The controller was cool before the price reveal. Hololens has potential but need to see it with something other than Minecraft.
Still need to view more of Nintendo and Third Parties, but...
Nintendo:
Third Parties:
Sony:
- The Last Guardian - Looks like it should be right up my alley, but man that is one ugly ass dogbird thingy. Kinda like the mangy mixed breed dog at the pound that never gets adopted. I'm supposed to care about that thing?
- Horizon Zero Down - Looks kick ass to me. I love the setting.
- No Man's Sky - Still looks amazing. Haven't cared about space sims for awhile, but I'm still intrigued by this one. The land based exploring reminds me of Metroid & Beyond Good & Evil.
- Battlefront - looks awesome but hard to get excited about a MP only title.
- Uncharted 4 - looks great, but bumping to 2016 blows.
Microsoft:
- Halo 5 - Always down for more Crysis, er...Halo.
- Recore - Fantastic, and from the guy that did Metroid Prime? Nice.
- Backcompat - only cool if the library grows exponentially
- Rise of the Tomb Raider - Amazing! Can't wait to play it...on PS4.
- Arcade reel - Cuphead & Beyond Eyes look great
- Rare Collection - fantastic collection with an even better pricetag.
- Sea of Thieves - Looks good, but it's been many, many years since Rare made a real game.

Still need to view more of Nintendo and Third Parties, but...
Nintendo:
- Star Fox - Cool! A new SF game!...that looks like a N64 game? Oookay.
- Metroid: Federation Force - Cool! A new Metroid game!... a shooter? on the 3ds?
Third Parties:
- Mirror's Edge: Catalyst - Can't Wait!
- Lara Croft Go - I'm down if it's free. If not, I'll buy after RoTTR hits PS4.

Metroid: FF is a huge whiff, just like Luigi's Mansion on 3DS was. You have a very specific controller that would be a perfect marriage between the game and controls and you put it on the 3DS? Metroid is just about the only game that screams GAMEPAD! Just like Luigi waving around a vacuum screamed Wiimote! But nope... 3DS.
I don't know what the fuck Nintendo is doing anymore. So disappointing.

Is there a website that give a fair and even handed overview with links or embeds to all the videos showing all this stuff? I have half-assed kept up on here but would like to go thru the X1 and PS4 stuff all in one neat little package.

Played Battlefront, while I was clamoring for the MP, it's too bad that it's only MP. It could use a single player and co-op campaign.
Looked at Guitar Hero.. 6 button split between white and black keys, not sure.
Played Mad Max, plays like Arkham.
Played Rock Band 4, I need to get used to the new freestyle star power. Fortunately, it is a mode that can be deactivated. I asked about the bombshell that MS dropped on them about BC. Will the new instruments be able to play the old disks? "We haven't figured that out yet."
