Thirteen hours in and about 25% complete, hasn't felt repetitive at all.

How varied are your objectives? |
Re: Mad Max
The game is somewhat repetitive but also addicting. You knock down scarecrows, take out snipers, search a bunch of little sites/camps for scraps, take down various camps, tackle caravans of 6 vehicles (maybe more), run races, search for water, upgrade Max and his vehicle(s) and do the story missions. Using the harpoon from a vehicle on other vehicles or people is bad ass. I'm around 25% finished as well with about 12-13 hours played. There is a lot of little stuff to do to get the platinum. It will be a bit of a pain in the ass but someone has already Platted it. Go figure!
Also, the storms that happen in the game are probably one of the most intense things I have ever seen in a game. |
Re: Mad Max
So what do you guys think: is this a game that will get a "game of the year version" or will it get a season pass/DLC pack(s)?

Also, has had a few WOW moments that really have to be experienced...and probably one of the, if not the, greatest cinema to actual gameplay transitions I have ever seen. I knew it was coming, and it was so smooth and so well done it still blew me away.. Spoiler:

Re: Mad Max
what would you say is the % of driving to hand-to-hand combat and foot quests, like 70/30?

Re: Mad Max
The game may feel like Borderlands in certain parts, but never when driving. The driving in this game is MUCH faster and MUCH better.

Re: Mad Max
I've never been great at Driving and Shooting. At least this has an easy-to-use ramming mechanic.

Re: Mad Max
i don't.

Re: Mad Max
thx.

Re: Mad Max
The game is a lot of fun but the death races and the tons of scrapping locations are going to kill me on the way to the platinum.
|
Re: Mad Max
I have been playing the game a bit and it is a lot of fun. Very similar to a cross between GTA and Shadows of Mordor. I thought the isolation may have been a negative in the game, but instead it really adds to the atmosphere. The fighting is fun, driving is fun and I am devoting my time me to it. MGS after.

Re: Mad Max
I completed the story yesterday and I'm not sure what to think of the ending - it was kind of depressing lol. I really enjoyed the game overall though and loved exploring the wastelands. Even the side quests were fun for once!

Re: Mad Max
Played a bit more last night and i am really digging it. Taking on convoys is fun and assaulting camps is great. It is very similar in feel to Shadows of Mordor (when is a sequel to that game coming out?), and thats only a good thing. That game is still better as there were times when the sheer number of combatants to fight against was huge and it would be so much fun.

Re: Mad Max
Finished...took about 30 hours. It got a little bit repetitive towards the end, and seemed to lose a little steam, but overall a fantastic fun game.
|
Re: Mad Max
About halfway through right now. Just not feeling this one as much as I thought I would. For those that finished.....is there more variety in the mission structure in the second half?

honestly, if you are not feeling it halfway in, I say stop. I can't think of anything in the second half that will change your mind.

I just did the Spoiler:

Re: Mad Max
I've been digging the game so far, but one of those "Death Races" is one of the worst things I've seen in a game. You have two minutes to get to the finish line and you're up against an unlimited amount of other "racers" whose only goal is stopping you. They're all considerably faster than you and come from every direction to stop in front of you, ram into you, etc. At the beginning, the racers to your left and right typically shoot forward and collide in front of you, immediately boxing you in. The race was so infuriating that when I completed it successfully, I chased down and destroyed three of the racers who were still on the map.

Re: Mad Max
I can see how some people would get bored with the repition of the game, but the driving and fight mechanics make it fun to do time and again.....well for me anyway. I have cleared a hell of a lot and opened up the second section, but only doing missions sporadically to give the game more life. My car is now pretty great and taking on convoys is a lot of fun. For example last night i took on a convoy on one of the routes and driving head on into it caused 4 of the 6 guard cars to collide and get completely destroyed. Finishing the other 3 vehicles was no problem, especially with the explosive spears. And talking of the explosive spears, i found out that when you are in a base and you pick one up you can throw one at a combatant when they are right next to you. The result is that the spear sticks in them, your character kicks them away and they then blow up. Very cool way of killing someone and nice way to disrupt a crowd.

Re: Mad Max
My 1000gs run took 91 hours, but you could probably shave 5 or 6 hours off that because I wanted to get Legendary time on each Death Race on each vehicle just for my own satisfaction. There's no achievement or in-game reward for this.
And yes, they're a nightmare for the most part. But my vehicle collection screen has both of those Golden medals illuminated under each vehicle, that's for same sure. |
Re: Mad Max
You put 90 hours into it in less than two weeks? Damn! I wish I had the much video game time.

That said, with open-world games I usually complete them to 100% even if it means obsessively spending hours. This past Labor Day weekend was 3 days of almost non-stop Mad Max. I definitely don't have it in me to do that regularly though. I just snagged Witcher III on sale at Amazon and the idea of playing it so soon after Max is almost exhausting. |
Re: Mad Max
Hrm. Humor aside... is this what the game is pretty much? Play mechanics, I mean....

Re: Mad Max
Damn if this game is not a collectathon.
|
Re: Mad Max
looks i'll get it when it is cheap.
|
Re: Mad Max
That honest trailer has some truth, but it's harsh. This game is not a rushed piece of crap. It's an enjoyable ride and the fight and driving mechanics work well and are a lot of fun. Sure there is a lot of collecting, but that's the same in many games these days. At least the collecting here makes sense and fits the world.
I completed the main story today and ended up as Road Warrior level 75. There is very little for me to collect and only a few races to do. I will keep playing, but not as intensely. MGS gets properly started tomorrow. |
Re: Mad Max
Yeah, I don't see how they could expect a game like the movie and get more than just a couple of hours out of it. How much straight chasing do you want? It works for movies but not for games.

Re: Mad Max
I love the game, and it's very fun. But it should be called Mad Max: Loading Times.
That and terrible freezing issues. Talking to someone about intel. Freeze. Try and clear a camp. Freeze. Loading screen. Freeze. Race time. Freeze. Oh and don't even get me started on the amount of other bugs.... and the Gastown race with Spoiler:
I can't wait to trade in this pos. What a shame, too. It was a fun ride. |
Re: Mad Max
I agree load times can be a bit long, but only had the game freeze once.
And I always wonder how good other players are at games compared to me, and how much patience they have. The Gas Town race I had a few tries at before I beat it. For a start I managed to always lock onto him as soon as the race started and hit him with a rocket. Just constantly racing well, getting to know the track and when enemies appear and getting those shots in on straight sections. Persistence is the key. |
