I know, but let's be honest : This was not a game that was ever in any danger of not getting made. We paid $60 for a physical copy because we wanted a physical copy. At the time we were told that the game was going to be $60 retail, but we would be getting an exclusive slipcover and exclusive DLC as a thank-you for doing a Kickstarter. We weren't getting a "deal", but we were getting some exclusive stuff and not paying a premium (or so we thought). Instead the game is $40 and the DLC will be available to all, and the exclusive slipcover looks like wrapping paper.
As far as I was concerned the act of charity was paying up front for a game that was years away and that honestly we had no idea if it would turn out any good. Thankfully it did. This will never hurt the way Mighty No. 9 did.

I have bought numerous other physical items via Kickstarter and every single one of them was sold to me below the retail price. It's a little crying over spilled milk, but I can't help feeling a little violated by the shitty deal we Kickstarters got here.

16-bit, like Super Castlevania IV, would've been my preferred look. Or heck, why not have it look the same as Symphony of the Night, which is what they're going for anyways.
I'm enjoying it, but the more I play, the more ugly it looks to me.

If you guys are looking for 8 bit or 16 bit looking metroidvania games you can find about 300 or so on all 3 of the consoles.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will launch on Nintendo Switch on June 25, but it’s already been out for a couple of days on other platforms. However, this may actually be a blessing in disguise – a game-breaking bug has been discovered in the game that’s blocking players from progressing if they download the latest patch after already having started a playthrough. So there you have it – if you buy a physical copy of the game, make sure to download the 1.02 patch first before starting a playthrough. If you get the game digitally, it should automatically download the latest version, so you shouldn’t have any issues.

As someone who purchased the physical version for the Switch, can someone please explain to me how to download and install the patch that's already out? I did a Google search, but found the information confusing. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

When you start up a physical game on the Switch with an update, it will automatically start downloading the patch before launching the software (unless you select to start without downloading option).

I had preordered a Switch version from Best Buy because I wanted to see what the free Steelbook was like (and it was only offered with the Switch version).

Turns out it's a REGULAR Steelbook, not a Switch one (like the kind gave with Mario Kart 8 and Let's Go Pikachu). It has a disc holder and they stuck in an insert for a Switch cartridge. It's hilarious. Looks pretty cool though (minus the insert). I will be keeping mine. Bet they will be going for a fortune.

I knew it was a regular sized steelbook, but it looked like it had built in holders for the switch cart and a disc. It's ridiculous that the switch holder is an insert that apparently doesn't even fit a switch game all that well.

There was also an official update apologizing for the crappiness of the switch version and vowing to spend time to fix it. Basically they delayed the switch version for a small amount of time, and I can't believe it was to "fix anything" but rather so that it didn't get review bombed to oblivion on launch week. C'mon, they really didn't know until the day of release that the switch version had problems? Ugh.

Even the PS4 version that I'm more than halfway through feels rushed/unfinished - they could've easily spent another 3 to 6 months on polishing things up.
The game is fun as hell, and while not terribly buggy, it just lacks polish. (not to be confused with how a lot of the backgrounds just look overly polished, literally)

I've been laughing about the steelbook ever since I picked my copy up.

I remember when it was first shown off, people were like "Why does it have a disc holder? The listing says it's only for the Switch version." They were like "Don't worry, we have it covered." Apparently that sheet of plastic was how they handled it.
The thing I find the most humorous and representative of the incompetence/lack of care going into the thing is they cut out slots for the clips in the case. Like, what do clips do? Hold on to things! if those cut outs weren't there, the case would hold onto the insert and maybe it would at least not fall out the moment the case is turned over.

Will say the biggest complaint that I have with this game so far is how shitty the whip is. For a Castlevania like game, you would think they would make it more fun to use.

Yeah, the whip has a weird delay to it, which I guess makes it realistic, but I'm not playing this for realistic whip physics!

They did announce today through Kickstarter a picture of the Alchemist's Treasure Slipbox if you were in the $100 tier (which I am). It's pretty nice.
