PS4 vs. XBox One: which one should I get?
I've been told by many people who are into games that PS4 is the route to go, but I'm not much of an online gamer. However, I have downloaded some movies from the Sony store and don't want to lose them.
I also recently purchased a 4K TV and have heard that PS4 is better suited for that format, even if it doesn't yet have the upgrade ability.
EDIT: This was supposed to be a poll, but I forgot to post it and cannot delete the thread . Just a general idea will do. Thanks!

It really depends on what games that are exclusive to each platform you're interested in. An idea of what type of games you like and any particular series that you want to play would help. Do you currently have a 360, PS3, or both as well?
As far as 4K, the PS4 is a bit more powerful then the XBox One and has been able to run more games at 1080P (with the XBox One occasionally not hitting that resolution) so in those cases the PS4 will look better on your TV, but I don't think either have the power to run anything at 4K natively any time soon/ever.

Still owning a PS3 and X360; I don't regret getting my XB1 at all. The PS4 is still a great system, but honestly, I felt the XB1 had the better selection of titles.

IIRC, I don't think either are powerful enough for 4K gaming, but may be able to support 4K movies down the line.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. The Xbox One is an extremely polished console, a few design flaws on the interface, but overall very slick. The PS4 still feels like a late beta.
That said, for media function the Xbox one wins, easily. For gaming I put the ps4 ahead of it. Exclusives wise I've found myself more taken with the ps4 titles, but a part of that is because I didn't play Infamous 1 or 2 and wound up enjoying Second Son a good deal, and Bloodborne is pretty much the most addicted I've been to a game in damn near two decades (dumped 50 hours into it over the last few weeks), and that many of the Xbox One exclusives just feel a bit tired right now (I'm frankly pretty bored of FPS titles. I didnt really enjoy Titanfall nor the Halo Collection which was a snoozer to revisit), though there has been Forza Horizon 2 which was good. But both have a pretty scarce exclusive line-up thus far.
For multi console, I find the ps4 titles are more consistant and slightly edge out their One counterparts. I don't game online much.
So anyway, my vote is the PS4 unless you plan on using it primarily as a central integrated media source for your home theater setup.

If you don't game online much and have friends who are XBOX only, then I can't see any reason whatsoever to choose that machine over a PS4.

XB1 has better exclusives, IMO. XB1 also has Sling TV and OAT TV support as well. Nice all in one solution if you ask me.

I'm pretty firmly of the belief that all huge corporations are run by money grubbing scumbags, but Microsoft really tipped their hand prior to the X1 launch. I'm sure Sony would try to pull the same shit if they could, but they were smart enough not to try it, so they got my business. It will take a lot to get me to switch to X-Box after all the garbage they tried to get away with when they thought they had a firm grasp on the majority of the gaming console market share. I wouldn't support their product.

For 4K Sony did say they plan on supporting 4K movies in the future. I wonder if the next model of PS4 will have the ability to download 4K movies?

Between your friends (I assume) suggesting PS4, your existing PSN content and your prioritizing image quality, the choice seems pretty easy.
Besides, PS4 is the default console for this gen. I'm sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings. It just is.
That said, the XBO owners here on DVD Talk seem happy enough with their boxes to enthusiastically recommend one (see above), and it seems like a fine console at a nice price point.

ugh this thread could be ugly..
Honestly your choices need to come down to
Are there any exclusives that you HAVE to have on one system or another. You should have an idea what those games are....
If you like to coop, what systems will your friends have?
The differences in power, image quality and other things are there, but not so great that one system will be less than the other.
I have both...and I have both last gen...I have a preference this generation, as I did last generation, but just like last generation both systems will give you 1000's of hours of fun.

Both consoles can (or will eventually?) do 4K upscaling, but you'll never see "big" games running at native 4K on either console. If you really want 4K gaming, build a PC that can handle it.

I've never seen any mod say that these weren't allowed, but really it's just a matter of folks being civil about it and not just outright bashing. I guess that comment is a little dicey, but there's some sort of reasoning behind it...

There are tons of other valid reasons to pick a console from price to services to apps to multiplat performance to controller preference to what your friends have. The reality is that PS4/XBO have and will continue to have 98% the same games.

Nonsense. If exclusive games were the "only correct answer", I'd be rocking a WiiU and getting no multiplats.

Services are essentially the same
Everyone has the same apps
Multiplay performance varies between them
If the OP isn't playing online, who cares what his friends have?
Therefore, choosing which one has the exclusives you want is the only real deciding factor here. The rest are toss ups.

Re: PS4 vs. XBox One: which one should I get?
To go deeper into why I chose the PlayStation 4 over the X-Box One: I have more online friends who play on that console and I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted series. The free tiles offered on PSN were far better than those offered on Live at that point, and arguably still are. Nearly all of the multi-platform title reviews I read prior to buying the PS4 stated that those games played better and looked more crisp on the PlayStation than on the One. Also, I use a PC as my media center, so that being X1's primary and pretty much sole lead over its competitors was moot when deciding which console to buy. It was an easy choice for me.
In my opinion, unless you really want to play some of the One's exclusive titles or need another machine to run Netflix and other media stuff on, go with the PS4.
