Yep, I plan on picking it up tomorrow morning from Fry's. Like all of the other Zelda games, I'm really looking forward to this one. This series never gets old to me.

I just called my Target and they only got two and people are already waiting outside in line (currently it's almost 8:30 pm where I'm at). That's ridiculous.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS - February 13, 2015
Crap show at the local target I stopped by this morning. I walked up about 30 minutes prior to the store opening and there was probably 8 people in line. The employee had just handed out 5 tickets for "guaranteed" systems.
Everyone assumed it was for the Majora's Mask edition. I decided to wait around to get a regular one for my son, as I have a MM one on the way for myself. Doors open and he walks everyone back. They call the folks up with the tickets and starts to sell them the regular New 3DS. People started getting crazy, he said they didn't receive any MM versions and the tickets were guarantees for the regular ones they had.
Talk about some serious anger! I walked up and bought a regular black one and walked out while the tickets folks were still all in shock and angered.
I felt bad for the one couple that had been there since 4am or so.

Was this at the Pinellas Park location? I was there too! I got the last ticket and just ended up getting a red system. About an hour later I snagged a MM on Target.com.

The guy waiting next to me in line for Amiibos at Toys 'R' Us this morning ordered one from Target.com as well and had his status change from Pre-Order to Backordered while we were in line.
Hope yours doesn't get canceled.
I ended up ordering a black one from BestBuy.com last night. I was in the local BB store just now to pick up MM the game and they wheeled out a cart with a bunch of the new systems on it (in both red and black).
I can't imagine how pissed I would've been had I stood in line at Target and wound up with nothing.

Yeah, the Target.com cancellations are coming in now, Quack I hope you got yours (though a free 15 bucks isn't a bad consolation prize).
Seriously, I can't tell if Nintendo is just intentionally holding back stock to create demand (which is working) or if they're just really cautious with the bottom line. Both this and amiibos are selling like cabbage patch dolls at christmas, and neither seems super compelling (at least, to me) on their own merits.

Nintendo purposely limits stock in the hopes it creates some kind of buying frenzy. They want the free viral advertising of people searching for actual stock.

were you at the Roseville location?
I had a great haul today around town
also witnessed grown ass men sprinting (and running out of breath) at target, after camping out all night, only to find 2 MM 3DSs and then going apeshit. Was hilarious, I should have video taped it.
Also got Megaman and Sonic Amiibos, but missed Ike and Dedede

Damn that's a pretty nice haul. Target ended up cancelling my order, oh well, I'll take the GC, maybe get OoT on 3DS with it.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS - February 13, 2015
So as someone who doesn't usually keep up on this nonsense of Nintendo's... if one hasn't gotten a MM edition 3DS yet, is it pretty much game over (short of feeding the scalping trolls)?
Honestly, I'm beyond pissed. I stayed up until 6am, constantly hitting refresh to and fro in figuring midnight would be the magic hour for sites to begin selling their stock. Finally, I go to sleep... exasperated and accepting my screwed-ness due to missing out on pre-ordering, all couple of days worth everyone took them in mid-January (and even then, bunches apparently got canceled.) I wake up... at 12:30pm. Oh, and the only sites that put any up today? Target.com, who *only* did so around 9am, sells out... at 12:15pm. Gamestop's bundle (with MM3D) sold out an hour before that. But of course!
Screw Nintendo. There's simply no excuse for this. None whatsoever. This isn't even a *new* console, where production of hardware is an issue! It isn't even like it's a new *item*!!! - how many months has the US been waiting -jerked around- after they became available to Japan? All those months when Nintendo refused to so much as announce a release date for the US, and... this? Where even the bland, non-limited 3DS's are near impossible to find?
The only folks winning from this are scalpers... Nintendo has to be out of their bloody minds to end up losing sales because they've obscenely limited amounts of product available. Between this and the Amiibo nonsense, it seems Nintendo is preferring to be a Beanie Babies collectible company rather than a gaming one.
Had I not already purchased several 3DS games over the past six months in expectation of finally buying a New 3DS -having all those games ready to go on day one- I'd say screw it+them and go buy a Vita out of spite. Utterly ridiculous, this nonsense - but having read some of what Nintendo is pulling with Amiibo's, I suppose it's not all that surprising. Methinks they need to take a gander at comment sites and see this ain't how you engender loyalty or passion for one's products and company, but just the opposite. This kind of bad press (and believe me, that's about all I can find online today 3DS-related) is precisely what Nintendo didn't need after *just* beginning to turn things around vis-a-vis the Wii-U disaster.
I'd probably have already just gone ahead and gotten a non-MM XL tonight... but why doesn't Amazon have *any* anywhere on their site? Black, red, ultraviolet... nada. It really would've been nice having had it tomorrow with Prime, versus God only knows when buying one at Walmart.com.

No, the one in Citrus Heights. The way these older (as in over the age of 50) men reacted when they found out they were too late was hilarious. Some guy took off work to go get these, but walked away with nothing after essentially reeming out the employee at TRU.
Looks like you made out pretty good. Out of curiosity, where did you get the Skull Kid Zelda? Or did you have those pre-ordered? The only store that had them in stock from what I heard was Fry's, but they weren't doing any sort of ticketing system for standing in line.

No one really knows why, for sure. Rumor is that it dates from the 3ds scratching problem / returns era early on.
I've got a MM 3DS XL shipping to me from a Gamestop in-store Web order (they happened to go up for pre-order right before I walked in to visit a friend that works at GS), but honestly I'm probably going to scalp mine to ebay - sorry for those that couldn't get one. It's very pretty, but I've never played MM, not a huge Zelda fan, and people are paying $375-$475 for them, and I could REALLY need the money to pay bills right now. I sold a lot of precious old gaming swag and DVDs to afford the n3DSXL as it was, as I really didn't have the budget for it.
So I ran out and got a black one today to actually play. Been playing Starfox 64 3D on it (also somewhat hard to find now). I'm the last one in the family to get one, the kids/wife play tons of Animal Crossing and Fantasy Life. The 3D is much improved - I always had to turn it off when I played the wife's OG 3DS XL.

I would argue the relative scarcity drove up demand and passion, not the opposite. The non hardcore guy isn't going to care that much that he can't get a "new" 3ds, certainly not a majoras mask one that doesn't even come with the game. But the frenzy this and the amiibos whipped up goes far beyond normal demand. If these came out in bulk, and amiibos were as easy to find as say, regular sky landers, I doubt you get anywhere near this kind of reaction. Certainly a lot of people would pass it up until at least xeno came out.
Like I said, I don't know if they're doing it on purpose but if they are, it's working.

So anyone actually break open and play one yet, or did we all sell them on ebay already?
Me, I'm waiting for my case to come in from Amazon, which was somehow delayed until March.

I tried one at Best Buy today. I wasn't that impressed. Certainly not impressed enough to drop $200 and waste hours of my life transferring data.

Really think if you want one, you're going to be better off waiting a year for the redesign. That's what I'm doing for sure.

The c-stick is fantastic as well, it feels good and works great in the games that support it. I'm happy with the system.

I had the new 3DS pre-ordered at Best Buy, but decided against picking it up. I do like some of the updates. but with only one game so far that requires the system and knowing there will be different color options/limited edition units forthcoming I decided to wait.

I'm planning to head there in the morning, but if people are already lining up, I'll sleep in.
