Bayonetta 2.
I can't believe it's not in the poll...
But it's not as if it's one of the highest critically rated game of the year. Oh, wait, it is!

Yes. Not to pick on the original poster too much but including some real
choices like AC Rogue and Lego Batman 3 that will not get any votes and leaving off Sunset Overdrive, South Park and Bayonetta 2 (which was a GotY nominee at the VG Awards two weeks ago) - well, I'm a little confused.

My favorites, although there are still a few heavy hitters I need to play:
Shovel Knight
Far Cry 4
Sunset Overdrive
Bayonetta 2
The way I played, at least, that's one on each platform! (PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U, respectively)

I think it's probably about time we started giving more games outside of the big AAA releases a fair look, because for my money, smaller games have been killing it. I look at something like Transistor, Shovel Knight, Hearthstone or Velocity and wonder why they can't get some consideration.

My choice is Assassin's Creed 2 (PS3), beating out Killzone 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Yes, I only played 3 games this year, and I'm a bit behind the times.
In about 3 years, I'll probably have finished off my stack of PS3 games I still need to play.
I might start Grand Theft Auto IV next.
I look forward to playing many of the games in this poll in about 6 or 7 years. I'll check back then.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
I don't have a game of the year, and a lot of the games that I either enjoyed or were interested in (Steins: Gate, Kara no Shoujo, Crimzon Clover World Ignition, Trails in the Sky, Ikaruga, Valkyria Chronicles, Icewind Dale: Enhanced, Gabriel Knight: 20th Anniversary Edition, etc) were old games getting new releases this year. Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker obviously fall into that category too, although I don't have a 3DS or Wii-U.
The closest I have to a legitimate game of the year is Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.

Even with its faults, Alien: Isolation wins for me. I love the level designs and the real suspense the game generates when the alien is around.
On mobile I'd go with Monument Valley.

Same for me. That game is an experience more than any other this year, and I've played nearly every game on the list to completion. The art and sound design are both masterful as well. An easy choice.

Agree with most. Not a hard candidate for GOTY. Just like the last couple of years it showed the maturity of the previous consoles, this year shows the infancy of the new consoles.
Next year we should have at least 3 strong candidates.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
I voted Dark Souls 2, since Bayonetta 2 wasn't on the list. But it wasn't nearly as good as Dark Souls 1.
I commented in the Mordor thread plenty. Short version is, I've never played an Assassin's Creed or Batman game, so it was pretty fun for the first 30-40%. After that it got stupid easy and very repetitive. I would have dropped playing it entirely if it wasn't for the fun of the Nemesis system. I can't imagine that a game like that can be a GOTY.

I thought Mordor was good, really good, but I didn't for see it becoming game of the year.
Mine would probably be a toss up between Dark Souls 2 and, I guess, Destiny.

Far Cry 4 for me, by a large margin. For fun and hours spent. Alien:Isolation and Wolfenstein get an honorable mention.
Can't believe there is 3 votes for Destiny at this point.
What a waste of 60 bucks that was.

Not for the thousands of people who put in hours in Destiny every night

I'm still working on my backlog as well. My game of the year is The Last of Us Remastered.
