Your most disappointing game of 2014?

2014 saw a lot of great games, but also some games that didn't quite live up to the potential and hype surrounding them. What was your most disappointing game of 2014?

For me, it's really close between Destiny and Titanfall. Destiny would probably edge it out, just because the more I play it, the more I can see how much potential it had. I still enjoy playing Destiny, I just wish it wasn't so repetitive and the world and story wasn't so hallow.

Thief. I have lots of good memories of the older games on PC but the recent release was mediocre at best. Last time I buy anything other than a sure thing digitally.

I bought Titanfall for the PC and have probably played 6 hours total. I just wasn't into it that much. I think the game was overhyped. I think you can actually purchase the game for pc on amazon for $9.99 right now. That is pretty cheap for a game that came out in March.

out of what I played (Destiny, Watch Dogs, Infamous) on the poll list .... Watch Dogs
though I did enjoy it I was expecting much more

not on the list and probably the biggest disappointment was NHL 15 to the point I didn't buy or play it because EA decided to release an unfinished game when they had plenty of time to get this ready for next gen

on a positive note .... biggest surprise of 2014 was PvZ: Garden Warfare

I need to vote for Watch Dogs and Destiny.

Driveclub and even more disappointing was Project Cars being pushed back until next year.

Destiny. Never played it but from what I have heard. Not good.

Then again people are saying Unity sucks and I like it.

You can't vote for something you haven't played! VOTER FRAUD

It's entirely my fault, but I'd probably say Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U. I knew beforehand that the difficulty is pretty brutal. This was my first Donkey Kong Country game, and...errr, it'll probably be my last. Even though platformers are pretty much my favorite genre, I'm just not at that skill level anymore. :) I think I gave up on the second world.

Destiny, Titanfall, and Infamous: Second Son all disappointed to certain extents, but I wouldn't consider any of those a straight-up disappointment. Titanfall would probably come the closest, but I sunk more time into it and had more fun than I ever would've guessed. It's more about thin content / repetition than anything else with those three.

I'd say DriveClub, but I bought that for my wife, so it's not my disappointment, exactly. We're mostly offline-types anyway. She definitely enjoyed Forza 5 more, though.

DKC: TF was bad even by latter day DKC standards. And not just because of the difficulty.

I would say Sunset Overdrive, but I sort of expected I wouldn't like it going in, so I guess I wasn't hugely disappointed. I was actually surprised that I enjoyed Infamous:SS as much as I did (especially when it turned old school with the boss battles), it's one of the better straight "beat 'em ups" I've played in a while.

So for me: Titanfall and Mario Kart 8.

There's nothing particularly wrong with either, they just both put me to sleep.

I was really looking forward to Driveclub : was itching to play some of the free version, buy the full version and enjoy it thoroughly. It was a much bigger screw-up than I could have ever imagined. Such a shame because I still think it's beautiful. Now it's such damaged goods that it'll never be a viable racing game (or, moving forward, even a viable racing franchise) even if they eventually do get their shit together and fix everything and give us a free PS Plus version. Such a bummer.

Same here. But Titanfall wasn't something that had me excited anyway.
Watch Dogs was a disappointment, but I didn't actually give the game enough of a chance to vote for it. I quit VERY early on because I got too annoyed by the cop chases.
I stopped caring about Driveclub once it got delayed from being a launch game because that seems like all it is meant to be, quality-wise (a launch game).

So yeah, I can't think of any particular game I would feel confident voting for as a disappointment so far this year.

I would say Titanfall with Destiny being a close runner up. Titanfall for dying out after three weeks and Destiny for not living up to the potential that it's architecture encompasses.

I can relate to a certain extent about Mario Kart 8. It's an improvement over the past couple entries in so many ways, but it doesn't have that compulsive replayability that even my less-than-favorite Mario Karts have, at least for me. I'm still excited about the DLC tomorrow, and I'm hoping that'll rekindle some of my love.

I don't think there'll ever be a Mario Kart game I love as much as Double Dash. I keep my GameCube plugged in basically just to pick that up every so often.

Destiny due to the hype and the letdown with what we actually got.

For me it's Destiny hands-down. It's like playing 1/8 of an MMO. Once I hit the level cap I was completely done. Never felt that way about a game like that before.

Titanfall was okay - I had enough fun with it for a few weeks. But I do hate that I got it digitally and can't get any money back for it. I'm sticking to my "not buying anything under $20 digitally" rule from here on out.

Yeah, that window's closed anyway. Best Buy is giving $11 for the Xbox One version. It had to be the biggest recent-game sell-back since State of Emergency.

oh really
when within the < 16 days you had it did you hit level 30?

Of those on the list, i've only played Titanfall. I enjoyed it decently enough, but didn't play it as much as I thought I would on PC. Destiny is on it's way from Activision.

My answer is probably Smash Bros on 3DS. Nothing against the game itself, but after getting a 3DS this year and picking up Mario Kart and Smash Bros, i'm quickly realizing that these Nintendo properties no longer interest me and hold my attention.

I thought it was okay, but I get your point. So many of their franchises have been allowed to stagnate and they've done very little to shake things up or come up with new franchises.
Zelda : A Link Between Worlds is pretty fantastic though.

Yeah, Zelda was fantastic and the reason I bought the system in the first place. That was at least unique in that it was basically revisiting my favorite Zelda game ever in Link to the Past so it was refreshing.

I wasn't planning on mucking around with the Light gear so I just hit the regular cap and called it good. The game was done, at that point. Wasn't interested in farming areas I'd already run a million times, especially since I had to go through them multiple times as it was..

sadly you missed out on a great portion of the game
legendary/exotic armor/weapons, raids, etc by not playing past level 20

I can understand the feeling of repetition but I don't think the game should be judged on up to level 20 only
