Regarding graphics card upgrades, I just got the GTX 970 yesterday. Right now, you get The Witcher 3 and the new Batman with it. So if you're planning to get those games anyway, it seems like a pretty good deal.

I forgot to finish my order at Best Buy with the steelbook and it looks like they are no longer offering it. In all honesty, it's probably for the best since I haven't even started the second one yet.

I'm currently replaying the second one on Normal. So glad the game lets you change difficulty on the fly because the Letho boss fight frustrated the shit out of me on Normal. I cheated and I switched to Easy until I lowered his health bar by half then switched back to Normal. Even then, he almost obliterated me instantly. It was sheer luck I survived.

Since this happened, it'd be cool if CD Projekt Red released the PC version online today. Not holding my breath, of course.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Sold Early by Retailers

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been sold early by a number of retailers in the United Arab Emirates.

Not due for release until May 19, some gamers have managed to get hold of the title early and began to stream the open-world RPG over the weekend.

Developer CD Projekt Red has spent the last 48 hours locking threads on its official forums and taking videos down from YouTube, while also imploring anyone who may have an early copy not to post any spoilers.

"Please, don't discuss the contents of any leaked information you may find," a moderator wrote. "If you see anyone posting information from the leak on the forum, remember to use the Report Post button and let us know."

Twitch has also reminded those who use the platform to stream anything prematurely is likely to be in breach of copyright laws.

If you don't want it out so early then don't put it in retailers hands so early. I remember waiting at a game store for the midnight release of Vice City while the store manager and an employee were driving back from the airport with the boxes of copies. You leave that stuff in someone's hands for too long it is bound to get sold.

Also, who cares if people got it early? It's not a TV show where people will be playing it simultaneously. Most won't even be buying it for months.

Apparently the issue here is with people streaming the game (which is why Twitch made their statement) and spoilers being posted. Since it's an RPG, the latter would be a big deal (though spoilers are easy to avoid if you were so inclined).

In my case, I've had it pre-ordered since last year so I will be downloading it on release day.

Re: The Witcher 3 - May 19, 2015 - PS4, XBO, PC

If people want to watch the stream and be spoiled, that's on them. Who fucking cares? I don't see how that's any different now, before release date, than it is watching a stream after an arbitrary release date. I think it's a case of the publisher being butthurt for not having complete and utter control. They need to be happy with making a good product, and then just let it go.

That's what I figure - but that's just shitty industry practice that's completely on them; put out an incomplete product, patch later.

Re: The Witcher 3 - May 19, 2015 - PS4, XBO, PC

I don't think it is as much a patch as it is being a stickler for a specific "release" date. As a matter of fact, this is the first time that I have even heard the possibility of a day one patch, much less a large one.

RocShemp 05-11-15 04:40 PM

Re: The Witcher 3 - May 19, 2015 - PS4, XBO, PC

This game was delayed for months in order to avoid the need for any day one patches. I can't speak as to the Twitch stream restrictions but the retail restrictions make sense. All retailers are meant to have the game available on the same day (unless they work out a deal for an "exclusive" early window). This is the reason why stores like Walmart and Kmart have paid fines in the past for units of games/movies sold before release date.

Oh and I doubt it's CD Projekt Red being "butthurt for not having complete and utter control". This is a company that refuses to add DRM to their games, even though they are aware of their games being pirated. They feel restrictions only hurt the users who actually purchase their games.

Gamespot quote:

This is one of the best role-playing games ever crafted, a titan among giants and the standard-setter for all such games going forward. Where the Witcher 2 sputtered to a halt, The Witcher 3 is always in a crescendo, crafting battle scenarios that constantly one-up the last, until you reach the explosive finale and recover in the glow of the game's quiet denouement. But while the grand clashes are captivating, it is the moments between conflicts, when you drink with the local clans and bask in a trobairitz's song, that are truly inspiring.

By the way, for those that pre-ordered the game on PC, you can already download it. That way you can play it on release date without having to download it then.

I still have to pre-order this. I think I have some GameStop credit to burn anyway.

The entire music score is also available to download for whomever pre-ordered the game on PC. Listening to it right now and it's great. The only track I'm not too fond of is "Eredin, King of the Hunt". Early on it borrows cues from Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's score to The Dark Knight. It does become its own thing but the track is over by the time that happens.

There was a rumor a while back that CD Projekt Red wants to make movies based on The Witcher universe. I say let them.

Debating whether or not I'm going to get this. I played through the first game about 6 years ago and only remember bits and pieces of the story and how it ended. I didn't play the second one because I bought it on PC and hated the controls....it played no where near the original game and was designed more to be played with a controller, so I shelved it. After seeing gameplay video for Wild Hunt it looks amazing and with the great reviews its getting it's got me tempted to buy it but I'm concerned I'll be lost with the story, not having played 2. If I get it, it will be on PS4 because I anticipate the controls will once again be designed around using a controller.

So does anyone have any suggestions? You think I would need to go back and play Assassins of Kings in order to enjoy this game?

I believe the Polygon review writer briefly mentioned that newcomers wouldn't be too lost at all. Maybe have to look a few names up here and there but nothing that should dissuade you from playing the game.

I'm in that boat too, I've never played either of the previous two games and am completely new to the franchise. I was concerned as well but it sounds like it should be minor.

The Witcher 3 Frame Rate Issues to Be Addressed in Day One Patch

"Framerate will be better once we official launch the game," said CD Projekt RED Community Manager Marcin Momot, in response to a question from a fan on Twitter. The patch will roll out across all platforms, and according to the developer will also include "overall performance improvements".

This will include fixes for texture loading, and the patch will automatically be applied upon launching the game.

So the first day patch rumors were true. Color me surprised, since this game was delayed in order to avoid launch day issues. Then again, it's not as if The Witcher 2 wasn't updated numerous times.

The collector's edition box is huge.

Spoiler:
Unless you get it from Gamestop, where they already opened the box and have the contents in a drawer, with the game disc in a paper sleeve. ;)

Spoiler:
Actually, that was just a display box.
